I may or may not be watching Star Wars as I
write this, so we’ll see how this goes…
Also, you should probably know I have a hard
time writing about myself. I face the temptation to instead rant aimlessly
about my theory that Lady Gaga is an alien, which would serve as an excellent
stalling tactic and thus forego the inevitable (although, that would explain a
lot wouldn’t it? I mean, she is quite intriguing!).
But alas, Lady Gaga can wait.
Let’s see, my name is Carly (to state the
obvious), and I was born and raised in the oh-so-glamorous city of Burbank,
California (SoCal woot woot!). My family is awesome and hilarious and I am
incredibly thankful for them. My dad does a sensational Justin Beiber impression
that inspires me daily. My mom has such a heart of compassion and service that
leaves me in awe. And my sister is pretty much the coolest person ever, and
also happens to be one of the craziest (but crazy people make life so much more
exciting).
Currently I am finishing up my last year of
undergrad at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I will be getting a degree in Social
Sciences, which is a combination of geography, anthropology, and sociology. You
may be wondering what I can do with said degree, and that’s an excellent
question, indeed. Let me know if come up with anything. But more than that,
these past four years have been the best and most defining of my life. The Lord
has revealed so much of Himself to me, beckoning me to follow after Him as His
love lights the way. He has blessed me with such a sweet community of amazing people
who have become more like family. They add so much beauty to my life, not to
mention incredible amounts of love, grace, truth, and encouragement. I know for
a fact I would not be the person I am today if not for the divine ways the Lord
has used each of them in my life. Shout out to my homies! You guys da best!
Good grief I don’t know what else to write.
I’m a high school youth group leader at my
church here in SLO and I love every minute of it. How humbling it is to be used
by the Lord in this way and to see Him at work in the lives of others. It is
such a joy to serve alongside such wonderful men and women of God. And the kids
are a fantastic bunch, let me tell ya. They let me be crazy and it is so good
for my soul. Bless ’em.
In fall 2009, I spent three months in
Swaziland with AIM and had the time of my life. The Lord captured my heart in
ways I had never known before, overwhelming me with His unconditional love and
relentless grace. He captivated me with His hope and brought glorious freedom to
my soul through His truth. Oh how my heart broke, only to discover His
redemption is more faithful than the sunrise. He never ceases to blow my mind.
I feel like I’m rambling. Am I rambling? Most
likely.
Well, I will leave you with these fun facts:
I work at a coffee shop. I love fire. And I oftentimes wish Narnia was a real
place.
Okay, I think that’s it.
“To be a Christian is to live dangerously,
honestly, freely – to step in the name of love as if you may land on nothing,
yet to keep on stepping because the something that sustains you no empire can
give you and no empire can take away.”
– Cornel West
