White noise fills the room as I sit here alone with my computer under the dinner table. Everyone is feeling the strain of our first official travel days. Flying with 64 people makes for long lines, hurry up and wait time, and lots of asking "do we have everybody?"
Upon arriving in Guatemala City we had our first bus experience. All the packs were thrown and tied to the top while we were crammed into the seats and aisles. Crammed is an understatement. Packed like sardines is more accurate. The welcome we received from Marco and his family was well worth the uncomfortable bus ride. They provided us with an amazing chicken, rice, bread and broccoli dinner. There were several empty rooms for us to lay our sleeping pads for a cool night's sleep. There was an amazing rooftop patio for us to get a view of the mountains and city. In the morning Brant held worship for us up there and we were served another wonderful meal. While logistics went on a shopping trip the rest of us enjoyed games and time with our host family. I was so excited to share my first heart puzzle with the little boy staying there.
Once again we were sardined onto the bus for a much longer, twisting, mountainous bus ride to our month long location, Santa Cruz del Quiche. It is their rainy season and we did pitch tents in the yard. Pray for dryness! Our hosts are incredible. They have already walked us through town and helped us to get dinner going for tonight. There are so many luxuries here that we will be sure to not have in our next locations. This should make for a smooth transition to this thing they call The World Race.
The dinner bell is about to ring so I will leave you with this short update, but promise to add photos and maybe even a video from all I mentioned above plus some.
