So we were walking home the other day, and i just started thinking about all the things we don’t appreciate enough. things that i haven’t appreciated enough. So i just wanted to write a little memoir to all the things i took advantage of when i was back in the states. I’m sorry “things”, i apologize for not recognizing you enough, or telling you how much i appreciated you…
Here’s to the things… “i appreciate you.”
1. Toilet seats. next time you sit on a toilet seat, turn around and give a little thanks to that seat that holds your bum
2. Fan’s. both ceiling and box… and anything that turns and makes wind. look up and smile at your fan.
3. Outlets. ones that fit things, and ones that are actually present in rooms…or building…or anywhere.
4. Salt. self explanatory.
5. Running water. and or Shower heads. water that moves on its own is a miracle, trust me, ingenious invention. and something that holds the water that’s coming out, allowing you to use two hands to shower with… amazing. appreciate it.
6. Paved roads. good golly miss molly. seriously, imagine the worst pothole you have ever hit, and then put those over every inch of the “road” and that is what we drive on… along with 25 other people, crammed into a 15 passenger “van”.
7. Band Aids. they fix everything. thank the next band aid you use, for a quick easy fix.
8. Smelling good. Your “normal” smell. is exceptionally good smelling. just trust me.
9. Stoves/Ovens. Look at your oven and hug it. you have an endless amount of cooking options and creativity having a stove top and an OVEN. woah! get creative at cooking, because we have made food with a limit of a Water boiler, or hot coals under some pots…
10. My First Language. If your first language is the language that everyone around you speaks… talk to more people. and listen to people better. Because when you are constantly surrounded by a language you can’t speak or understand. it gets a hard having small talk with people. so appreciate small talk.
11. Washing machine/ Dryer. Clothes could never be as clean as they are when you have an industrialized machine wash them. i mean wow. you should stand in front of your machines and watch in amazement. there are some amounts of dirt that hand washing, just simply cannot get out. i can’t even imagine clean clothes anymore. haha
12. Trashcans. Garbage disposal is very important. it changes an environment so much when there is not gobbs of trash everywhere. Appreciate when you look on the road and they are clean. even a few “pieces of trash” on the roadside is worlds better than places that they don’t even know what a trashcan is… especially when the only way to get rid of your personal trash is to burn it… right outside your house..
13. Mattresses. Love love love love your mattress. It makes your sleep so luxurious. We don’t have mattresses often, and if we do they are usually hard as rocks. so when we see a good mattress, it is a serious blessing from the LORD! so give a little thanks to your mattress.
14. Being cold. I sweat 24/7…
15. Personal cars. Definitely not necessary, but when you are exhausted at the end of the day, or want to go somewhere without someone taking you it is nice to have an option. especially after walking about 5 miles a day.
I LOVE the world race life. it is amazing. i love the simplicity, and walking, and downsizing my life, and it is definitely something people could learn from. But when i think about the way i lived in America and all the luxuries i had, i definitely want to encourage people to appreciate the things they have more, that make living real nice. Because i definitely did not appreciate the things i had enough.
Love ya!
