“LET’S GET THAT BREAD!”
I’m typing this as I literally throw a package of King’s Hawaiian Rolls into my suitcase to take home for Thanksgiving. (Y’all, pray they don’t get smashed by all my other take-home items….oops.)
Anyways, let me rewind by explaining how “get that bread” is a common phrase used by my generation to indicate someone is making money. Urban Dictionary best defines it:
-
“A phrase originally used to mean “let’s get money,” as bread=dough and dough is a common slang term for money.”
However, I’m here to talk about a DIFFERENT kind of bread this season. Don’t get me wrong, I can chow down on rolls, biscuits, cornbread (and my personal favorite…bread pudding) as well as anyone. But, hear me out people.
I’ve been studying John this week and there’s a lot to be said about the actual bread of life in this book. Here’s a verse that especially stuck out to me as I begin this World Race journey. I hope it stands true for you as well. I also ask that you pray I can carry out this verse in truth throughout my time abroad.
John 4:34 – “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.”
We know Jesus says not to worry about what we will eat or drink (even though that’s all I want to know at Thanksgiving time…) But, this verse is really holding me accountable to having a servant heart and being fulfilled by what He is leading me to do.
Ok and THIS…THIS is the bread I want forever. How empowering!
John 6:35 – “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”
John 6:51 – “I am the living bread that came down from Heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”
John 6: 57 – “In the same way, anyone who feeds on me, will live because of me.”
So, this is just me dropping in to remind you, when all you want to do is “carb up” this holiday season, know that JESUS is the bread that will really fulfill you eternally (enjoy those biscuits too, I’m not judging).
Much love and Happy Thanksgiving,
Carley
