Dear Friends,
I’m finally settled in Charlotte, and hopefully by the time you read this working at a job that will enable me to pay rent while preparing for the next adventure. Because backpacking Europe kicked the wanderlust to a high level. But I wanted my next adventure to be a way of giving back. I was planning a trip around South- East Asia where I would volunteer, stay at eco-friendly hostels, and eat at restaurants somehow contributing to local communities beyond the normal business model. Because I was tired of working for “the man” and I wanted to travel with the intention of making a difference. So while reading through the Internet, I came across The World Race. And within five minutes, I knew this was what I wanted my trip to be.
So what is the World Race? First, it’s not The Amazing Race. Second, while it will be amazing because I am on it, my lawyers have said I am not allowed to call it The Amazing Race (stupid copyright laws). So we’ll have to stick with the World Race. Third, it’s not a running type race, although I do hope to run multiple 5k’s. A part of Adventures in Missions, World Race is an 11 month long missions trip which goes to 11 countries. I’ll be going to China, South Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Rwanda, Uganda, and Kenya. Awesome, right? While in each of these countries I’ll be doing… whatever the local church needs me to do. It could be working with a church to help with their outreach, vacation bible school, praying. It could be working with an organization helping build something, working with sex trafficked women, or helping in a hospital or orphanage. It could be teaching English. Each month will bring a different country, a different outreach opportunity, and a different set of challenges, and a chance to bring love and hope to people. Which is what I am most excited about. It will be a chance to grow spiritually while having an amazing adventure.
I’m confident that God will provide my needs, especially the financial ones. I am a very independent person, so to ask people for help is already a growing experience for me. To cover my expenses on this trip, I will need to raise $15,500. Will you consider supporting me financially and through prayer? You can give financial support either monthly or in a one-time donation. If 25 people donate $50 for the next 12 months, I’ll be fully supported. Also, if anyone donates $1,000, I will give them presenting sponsorship rights to the month/country of their choosing. Just think: Carley High’s World Race experience in (Country), presented by YOU! If you would like to donate, you can go to http://carleyhigh.theworldrace.org/, and click on the Support Me tab. You can have the option on submitting online, or contact me and I can tell you info on how to mail a check. If you support online, you have the option to do a monthly support with start and stop dates.
Obviously, I’m really excited about this coming year. I hope you’ll follow me on the journey via my blog (http://carleyhigh.theworldrace.org). Because I don’t plan on carrying you in my pack, as much as I’d like to. I hope that you will support me financially and prayerfully.
Love,
Carley
