I’m Fully Funded!

It was about this time last year, I was anxiously waiting for a phone call to tell me if I was accepted to go on the World Race. That phone call came in the middle of Old Navy. Standing in the the jean aisle, I found myself both ecstatic and terrified.

I was so excited to see the world and be apart of what God is doing in 11 countries! But my next thought was, “how in the world am I going to raise 17,617 dollars?”

The next 9 months leading up to launch was full of tears and prayers. I had no clue how so much money would be raised or why God asked me of all people to go. Couldn’t He pick someone more popular, with a huge home church and more connections?

But He called me, so who am I to say no.

A year later, standing in Cambodia with my very own classroom of high school students, I announced that I’M FULLY FUNDED.

The conclusion I have come to is this, I can have confidence in my God. Sometimes it was scary to chose to put my trust in His character this past year; but now I can look back, $17,617 later, and see that He is faithful. If He calls you to it, He will equip you for it and always provide a way. I also realize just how loved and supported I am by my family and friends who have given so generously. In my doubt I couldn’t see that others would want to support me. I allowed myself to feel alone, but I never was. God was always there but so where my friends, family, and even complete strangers.

More important than being fully funded is what I’m funded for.

As I write this blog, I’m sitting in a small hot room I share with my team. I’m sitting on a mattress pad laid down for two very sick high school girls. The doctors are not sure what is wrong yet, but they are in so much discomfort with tense muscles and queasy stomachs.

I get the honor of rubbing their cramping muscles, making sure they take their medicine, and praying soft prayers until they fall asleep. We are taking shifts watching the girls through the night so that the very weary students and staff can get some sleep. The girls have been sick 3 days now.

I am tired, I am uncomfortable, but I am blessed and get to bless others.

I have the honor of serving those around me.

For some reason, God picked me to be here. Because I know He is good, I said yes. And because so many people said yes to supporting me, I have the great privilege to share the Gospel and love others all over this world.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for supporting me on this journey. Through your giving, my faith has grown.

Thank you!

Our Ministry

This past month in Cambodia we have lived and worked with Lighthouse Ministries. The mission of Lighthouse is to provide a high school education and mentorship to the underprivileged youth of Cambodia. There is around 30 students that live at Lighthouse. Each student is from the country side where high school education is not offered. The students work hard to pursue their dreams while staff come along side them to encourage, teach, mentor and care for each student.

Lighthouse is a family.

We were blessed to be apart of the family this past month. The men on my team worked hard on manual labor projects through the month, while the ladies taught English lessons to the Lighthouse students and adults from the surrounding area. The next privilege was to build relationships with each student. We were able to get to know these amazing teens and pour into them each day as we joined them in their life in Cambodia.  Their lives looked like, 5am workouts, breakfast, chores, school, family Bible study, family lunch, then more school!

Janine, Cristin, Tate, and I did a Beauty for Ashes event with all of the ladies of Lighthouse. This is basically a ‘girls night’ where we have fun, speak truth, and have a chance to present the gospel to them. During our girls night, 5 students accepted Christ as their Savior!

Beautiful things are happening in Cambodia. A country with a violent and painful past is being rebuilt. The youth at Lighthouse are apart of rebuilding a hurt but healing country. Please pray for the youth of Cambodia as they have a big job ahead of them.
