Back in 2007 when I was just recovering from Cancer I have got to tell you the idea of missions was not really on my mind. Towards the end of August 2007 God had not cared if it was on my mind or not and spoken to me about going to Haiti.
At Christmas time of 2007 I was getting this Global perspective a little more trickling in. I decided to buy my nieces and nephews a chicken from Gospel For Asia. They have a program for buying chickens or goats to help needy families make a business from it. The kids like their gift and I think they still have the certificate hanging in their room.
January 2008 I went to Haiti with all thoughts of Chickens (except the ones that were waking me up) and Asia out of my mind. Actually, I had forgotten about the whole chicken thing until yesterday. I had two amazing helpers out to the house helping me pack and they ran into a postcard that read:
(From Gospel For Asia) Dated 1-9-08 (While I was in Haiti)
Carla, Many in Asia will hear of Jesus for the first time as a result of your prayers and support. Thank you. This morning I was privileged to pray for you. May the joy of the Lord be your strength and may his peace be with you always. Blessings, Jim
Now I know Jim was talking about my contribution of the Chicken but now almost 2 years later as I ready myself to go to Asia I see it as a prophetic word. SO the answer is God used my willingness to buy a chicken for a family in Asia to break my heart for Asia almost 2 years later. Chicken before the Asia !
