First of all, I want to say that Lucas is the most loyal dog you will ever meet. A short part of Lucas’ story begins when 3 months ago, he was found, while his owner was hiking. Ever since then, his owner and Lucas have been inseparable. His owner works in the foundation that we are working with this month in Medellin, called Ciudad Refugio. This means that Lucas gets to join us in all of our little trips that we go on with the foundation, like when we go up to Manantiales.
I had the pleasure of Lucas joining me in my quiet time one morning up in Manantiales. That morning he taught me a lot. He was relentless in trying to get me to play fetch with him, until finally I did. This reminded me a lot of how God pursues us. One of my squad mates’ sayings for the World Race was Relentless Pursuit, how God is always in Pursuit of us, and won’t give up until all of his people know how much he loves them and cares for them.
Once I started throwing the stick, he always came back to me, sometimes it would take some time, with him playing with the stick himself for a little bit, and me waiting for him to come back. This is how God waits for his children. Whenever we leave God’s direction, he is always waiting patiently for us to come running back to him so that he can embrace us with open arms.
In Manantiales, we live in a little gated area. Outside the gates, while Lucas was waiting for me to throw his stick, there were dogs barking at each other. Lucas got scared and started shaking and whimpering, when he did this I tried to comfort him and be there for him and tell him it’s okay. This is how God is with us, whenever we are anxious, or nervous,or have fear in our hearts, God will always be there to comfort us and he will never leave us. He will always be with us, and he will be there to guide us in the right direction and give us the comfort we need.
The way God teaches us things is fascinating. He reminded me of his relentless pursuit, tender heart, and comforting nature through a dog. Never underestimate God’s power and never doubt the way he speaks to you, because he is always trying to communicate with us and share his love with us in different ways.
