Today was the day to weed. Gardening is something I normally enjoy doing back in the states, so it made me a little happy. I weeded along with Alex, Emily, and Savannah. I always have great conversation with these ladies! Right when we started, someone mentioned maybe reading the parable about the weeds, so I ran in and got a Bible. I would like to share a little bit about what we read and how it compares to our lives weeding.
Mathew 13:24-30- "Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. The owners servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you want to sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?' 'An enemy did this he replied, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?' No, 'he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time i will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it to my barn."
After I read this passage I was like hmmm.. ? That didn't really have an answer to it. Looking forward another passage caught my eye! The Parable of the Weeds explained! YAY!!! So, I continued on reading to my friends.
Mathew 13:36-43- "Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field." He answered, "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stand for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvesters are angels." "As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angles, and they will weed our of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear."
As I compare this to our weeding adventure today, I want you to see the garden as our lives (maybe the world). The vegetable plants portray us Christians living in a world full of sin. Sin being the weeds that temp and suffocate the Christians and the gardener is the Son of Man.
So, as a gardener you want to make sure your garden is always watered, weeded, and has the right amount of sunlight. When a garden is neglected and not weeded regularly, it becomes overgrown with weeds. These weeds/sin suffocate the plants, steal their nutrients, and they are not able to grow to their full potential. These weeds/sin temp us and may keep us from growing to our full potential that the Lord has planned for us. In order for these plants to live to their full potential and produce good fruit, they need to be weeded. That's when the gardener comes into play. The gardener comes in and weeds the garden to give the plants room to grow, breath, and obtain nutrients. The plants then have more potential to produce good fruit. Just like the gardener does this for the plants. The Son of Man came to do that in our lives, to weed out the temptations, and the sins so that we can became one with Him, that we can grow to the potential He has for us; in the plan He has for us.
God is just so great in His ways. He loves us, and wants us to continually strive after Him in everyone. He has a plan for us and in this we need to be open to setting sin and temptation aside in order to get to our full potential in Him. He is GREAT AND GREATLY TO BE PRAISED!!!!!!!!!!!!
