Just walking down the little dirt road with Sabrina, a girl
from the church here. Just… just
never, just nothing.
We were stopped by a girl who looks no older than 20 and has a
little baby wrapped up on her back.
She speaks with Sabrina.
All I can understand of the Lugandan conversation between the two ladies
is Sabrina’s response of “ohhh wow”
With intrigue, I conjure up some patience while wishing I spoke
Lugandan.
After some translating, I find out that the lady stopped us to
tell us that she wants us to come and pray for her. She wants to have a relationship with Christ, and she has a
baby who has been cursed and needs prayer for deliverance from the demonic
presence to be released.
I walked to her house wide-eyed and tried to ask her some
questions about what she knew about Jesus… I was
thinking: ohh booyyy… And
then I was thinking about Mathew 10:7,8. As you go, preach this message: ‘The
kingdom of heaven is near. Heal
the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out
demons. Freely you have received, freely give. And that whatever was going to happen, or wherever I was
going, I am a daughter of God, and He is in control.
We arrived at her house and I asked if she could bring her
daughter out to the front of her place instead of following her inside. Turns out the ladys’ name is
Harriet. I asked Harriet some
questions about her daughter and her family to try to get a better picture of
what was going on with her and her family… and this curse. I found out that Harriet’s family were
witches who cast a spell on her children.
Harriet had been interested in being born again but her family would not
tolerate this. Harriet said that a
pastor had prayed for her daughter before but she still needed more
prayer.
So Sabrina and I prayed for Bridget, Harriet’s 2 year old
daughter. Somehow this little 2
year old looked as though she held the weight of the world and her eyes were
were so sad. As we were praying,
Bridget backed away from us, she didn’t want us to touch her, and she sat down
on the ground, hands in her lap and started crying. We kept praying.
After us praying for a little while, little Bridget fell
asleep, still sitting up. Her head
was nodding around as one would when you are sleeping in the car or something…
I strongly felt like God wanted to completely redeem and
restore this family. I felt that
God was saying there is hope for this child, and this whole family! I also felt that God wanted to totally
make this family new, Bridget is a new creation and that God’s desire is to
have this whole family dedicated to God, so that this family is completely
filled with presence of God. I
expressed all this and also that Bridget should have a new name… Hope. God will
bring redemption. I’m not
sure how much of this was translated to Harriet…
That night Harriet, and her two daughters: Bridget (the 2 year old) and Jerry (4 months old) was the first one to show up at church. I spoke with Harriet more -asked her some questions and try to help her understand a bit about Jesus’ love for us and what it means to live in a relationship with Him. She was so eager to be lead in a prayer to Jesus, dedicating her life to Him.
I spoke with Harriet more about Jesus and how she can pray and have a personal relationship with Him. It was time to be heading back now…we encouraged Harriet to come to church that night and we could talk more. We wanted to pray more for little Bridget too.

We returned to Harriet’s house couple days later and found out
more of her story…
Two
months ago, Harriet – 18 years old fled from her family and her abusive husband
with a baby, just 2months, a two year old and no money. Along the way, strangers came up to her
and would give her money, food and bus fare without her asking! She was trying to make her way to
Numulanda because she thought she knew someone there.
She
arrived in Numulanda and was walking around trying to look for her friend… but
couldn’t find her. Someone noticed
her, asked her is she was looking for something and if she needed help. When this person found out Harriet was
homeless, the friendly stranger opened her home to Harriet and her
daughters.
Clearly
God is providing for Harriet!
We
visited Harriet several times, was able to partner with the church in giving
her clothes and food. Before I
left I got to hold Hope and pray for her and her sister, Selah were dedicated
to God in church… Hahaha… Note the new names J
The day
before I left I was walking home and meet Harriet, clothed in the clothes we
had given her and Selah peacefully walking down the dirt road leading to our
home. I was surprised and thankful
to see them because they weren’t near their home. It was great to give them a last hug goodbye and send them
off with love and prayers. I strongly feel that God has His mighty hand upon
them and am thankful I was able to be a part of what He is doing in these
beautiful lives.
Sweet little Hope has so much more peace and joy about her! I
feel it as she falls asleep in my arms, and laughs with that new found joy in
her eyes. Harriet says that her
and her children are doing much better than before, no longer manifesting – For
example, apparently Hope would cry intensely and her eyes would roll backwards…
sometimes pass out.
I will
continue to pray for this family.
That last day I saw Harriet, she was dressed in some more fitted
clothes, I noticed that she is expecting.
Selah is a beautiful little girl who stares at me with wide eyes. When
her gaze is locked on mine, I find myself wondering what she is seeing with her
little eyes and what she will see and experience in years to come. Although she is just 4 months, I sense
that she may be physically or mentally developmentally delayed. She has sores on her face and by her
ears that we are praying for. The church and our team put some money towards
some treatment for her.
