Last Saturday, our team meet up with some students from the
Nairobi Medical School, hopped on a Matato (Kenya’s prefered form of public
transport) and made our way out of town and towards the orphanage – St. Dorcas
Educational centre. We were warmly
welcomed! The kids sang for us, it
was sooo beautiful!
After their
performance, our introductions and a short message, I had the opportunity to
teach a group of the older kids. Mike (one of the students from the Nairobi Medical school) and
I spoke life into the kids and encouraged them to pursue their goals.
I told them the story of a friend of my family -Naz. As a child , he wasn’t even able to attend
school in Kenya… now he is a successful pharmacist and philanthropist in
Victoria, B.C.
We asked them all what their dreams are of what they want to
be. We encouraged them to pursue
their dreams. I told them now that
they had their goals down in writing, and some spiritual and practical tools to
achieve their goals, in a sense they are accountable to pursuing their
God-given dreams, as He leads them.
I affirmed them in their goals and told them I would let my friends at
home know about their dreams so they could pray for them.
Here’s the basis of what we told them:
- Know where you’re going – target/goal
- Do not let my past prevent me from reaching my goal.
- Give my studies my best
- Take initiative
- You can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Phil 4:3
- know who you are – a child of God! And God has made you
wonderfully and fearfully – Psalm 139.
Okay, so meet my friends! These kids will be changing the future of Kenya!
