The church we are partnering with this month holds lunch hour prayer meetings Monday- Friday. Today I was asked to open up the service with a word… I’ll share it with you too.
Of course there’s no formula to praying, but here are some of my thoughts in how we can pray.
- Be still and know that I am God. We can come before God and silence ourselves to whatever is happening around us and fix our mind and heart on Him. We don’t always need lots of words when we pray (Ecclesiastes 5:2). We can think on the I AM. He is a holy, mighty God. The heavens and earth proclaim his righteousness (Psalms).
- Psalm 139: 23,24 says: Search me, O God, and know my heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. It may be more easy to draw near to God after we talk to Him about anything offensive in us and we may know God more closely.
- Know that his thoughts for us are more numerous than the grains of sand (Psalm 139; 17, 18). He has so many thoughts about you and me and everyone. We can ask to know His thoughts about people.
- Likewise as we abide in Christ, we can know Him more and pray in His will. Jesus prayed Your Kingdom come, you will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In John 10 Jesus says that He is the good Sheppard, he knows his sheep and his sheep know him. The sheep listen to his voice and follow. In John 15, Jesus says remain in me and I will remain in you, as His words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you. I think powerful prayers can be prayed when we pray God’s will, pray from His heart and his thoughts.
- Lastly, we can pray in joy and victory! In John 15, Jesus explains that He tells us about remaining in Him so that His joy may be in us and our joy may be complete. In John 16:33- in this world we may have trouble, but take heart, I have overcome the world. Praise God!
