Hello everyone!
Thanks for reading my blog and taking an interest in my life.
So here’s where I am supposed to be telling you about myself… Hmmm if you don’t know me, it would be so nice to meet you and we could get to know each other in person, but I guess this will have to do for now.
This post is snip bits of me… little bits and bobs…
So I was recently involved in a confrerence at the universirty I graduated from and had to submit a bio. I’m just gonna recycle a part of that bio… My name is Carin Cownden. I like people and having adventures. I’ve just finished my degree in Recreation and Health Education from UVic. I feel passionate about helping people improve their quality of life.
People in my life
I’m so blessed to be surrounded with amazing family, friends and community, all these people are a part of me. Thank you.
Home and Tapestry
I have been raised in a home with awesome parents and a lovely sister…yup those of you who know my family will concur. I remember when we were growing up we had this tapestry my aunt made my parents that said: as for my and my house we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15. I was raised in light of this and with much love. My extended family is extensive, it’s fairly common to spot a relative when I’m out and about in town, and we don’t live in a small town.
More than Home
Yes, I was raised in a christian home, no this is not what makes me a christian. In general, I don’t like to do things just because that’s what’s I am supposed to. For example, I remember being a little girl and tearing off bows and frills from my beautifully hand crafted dresses that were to be worn to church. No I was not really a tomboy, just me and I didn’t understand why I had to wear these dresses on Sundays and why I had to wear the same dress as my sister. I think you need to believe in God because of personal revelation, which leads to relationship.
Own it, Love it, Work it. (haha!)
So My relationship with Christ is a daily, moment by moment pursuit and choice; my understanding of God is dynamic and real, simple, yet God is immensely vast. In part this means daily humbling myself before God and others. By grace I have received this faith, by grace I know that God is love. I am flawed! God is living in me, love is living in me, and naturally, it most flow out.
Island Girl
I’m sorry but I am proud to be Canadian, a west coaster and born and raised on the beautiful Vancouver Island, home to trees and some awesome people. I really love granola.
Some of My Favorites
Do you know that song from the Sound of Music “My Favorite Things” where they are singing the song when they’re scared because there’s a thunder and lightning storm outside? Well if I were there throwing pillows, jumping on that bed, and singing with Fraulein Maria and folk, my contribution to the list of favorite things would include:
-dolphins because they smile and play in the ocean all day, -wonderful friends, -the sound of waves crashing,
-starry skies, -meeting people, -sharing some yummy dish or treat I made when the eaters love it,
– trees, -schools of tropical, colourful fishies – (which is what I have been imagining lately while I’ve been getting vaccinations for travelling),
-the smell of summertime warm, -laughing really hard, (especially laughing with Deanna and Kari-Aunt because every other noise is subdued beneath the roars of laughter),
-edifying and soul-filled conversations, -cheese, -excellent explorations,
-engaging with the environment like through cycling, rowing, hiking, and running,
-authenticity, -beauty, – the view from the top, my nephew’s smiles and coos, snowflakes that stay on my eyelashes
– diving… oh wait i can’t actually dive… ohhh and there’s so many more, and potentially, you are one of my favorites!
That’s it for now.
