Hi, my name is Cara!  I'm a 27 year old grad student at Miami University (Love and Honor!) in Oxford, OH, a little town about an hour from Cincinnati.  I'm the youngest child with an older brother and two older step siblings.  I grew up in West Lafayette, IN–home of the Purdue Boilermakers (Boiler Up!).  I also attended Miami for undergrad which is where I learned what it really meant to follow Jesus and let Him be Lord of your life.  It's also where I met some of the best friends a girl could ever ask for!

I took a somewhat odd path to get to the World Race…

  • I graduated from Miami in 2008 with a degree in Accounting and Finance,
  • Passed my CPA exam, worked for a large public accounting firm for 3 years
  • Then decided to leave my job for grad school back at Miami in Student Affairs (essentially all the people that work at universities that aren't professors/in academic affairs)
  • Learned a ton in my program that led me to the WR instead of a new job

Now I am graduating in May with my master's before heading out on the Race in July (I'll discuss my path in detail in a later blog)!

It's hard to narrow what I should include in this 'about me' but here are 11 fun facts I can think of right now to get you started…

-I love lattes and pizza but they both have to be made with soy milk and cheese…I'm lactose intolerant
-Christmas season begins when I get a soy chai in a Starbucks red cup (cause it smells like Christmas!) and walk High street in Oxford when its lit with white Christmas lights…it's the best!
-I love to bake for other people (remember lactose intolerant!)
-I have almost no imagination
-I am very detail oriented
-I have no directional sense whatsoever
-If I could have one big time luxury in life it would be a driver (for now I'll settle for public transportation)
-I have trouble journaling because my thinking moves faster than my fingers.
-I am always thinking but it takes me a little while to start talking
-I don't know how to work DVR
-Even though I may not talk to my friends as often as I'd like, I love picking up right where we left with every convo.

I hope this is a good start to get to know me!  Subscribe to my blog to keep learning more and follow my trip, I would love to take you with me on this journey.  I never thought I'd go on a trip like the World Race, but my heart longs to love the people I will meet, see the places I will go and discover the Lord's purpose for me in the midst of it all.  I appreciate all of your prayers and support that help to make this all possible!
