Every evening at 4 pm we drag out the speakers and set up for our open air crusades in the middle of a grassy clearing. Normally, there are shops nearby so we can have electricity for the sound. We dance and dance and then we preach and have an alter call and the local people come around and watch the Americans try to have rhythm, yep we do try.We are swamped by kids who just want to copy every move we make and the adults stand on the outskirts watching. The whole community comes out to check us out.
Here is what hit me today. Over the last three weeks I have lived and sat in the dirt everyday with the kids of the community. They climb, pee and sleep on us. It has almost become normal to hold half naked babies and street kids.
Well, today I was standing with my hands on two little brothers. They were dressed in identical outfits with bald little heads; they stuck to each other like glue. Through the whole sermon I kept looking at this boy’s shoes. The seams in the front had been undone so that his feet could fit in them.
I had two thoughts. I wish I could just buy him some shoes and take care of what I see. The second thought was, I see a whole lot of this and I can’t solve every problem of the world that I see. If I’m not able to give every child shoes that I come across what am I to do? But God unveiled something for me in that moment of looking at his little toes.
Jesus is always talking with a spiritual viewpoint to his disciples. When Jesus talks about the bread of life, they’re thinking lunch. They can’t see with their spiritual eyes. (Matt 16:5-8)
That was my moment, when I looked at his shoes, I’m thinking shoes and God is thinking human souls. I want to see what God sees with my spiritual eyes.
Jesus, thank you for revealing to me more of your heart and awakening me to people’s true needs.

0But God has revealed those things to us by his Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the deep things of God.
11Is there anyone who can understand his own thoughts except by his own inner spirit? In the same way, no one can know the thoughts of God except God’s Spirit. 12Now we have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who comes from God, so that we might understand the things that were freely given to us by God. 13We do not speak about these things in words taught us by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual things to spiritual people.
