Dear Cara,
This letter has been a long time coming. I want to let you know that you haven’t been perfect. Far from it actually. You’ve messed up time and time again, even on a daily basis. Your thoughts stray constantly and you are easily distracted from what truly matters. You lose your focus from God and what He has in store for you. You allow the lies to creep in and lose sight for His truth. You let people and their words and actions drive your self-efficacy and self-worth. You let careless words slip from your mouth. Many times your motives are selfish. You continue to struggle with pride and admitting your weaknesses to God and to those who love you. You have done things to hurt people, people you love and people who you don’t even know of and you can’t take them back. You fail all the time to put your trust in God. You struggle with the fruits of the spirit. You put your focus on earthly desires. The list goes on. But you know the kicker? JESUS loves you and forgives you. Past, present, and future junk. He died for it all. He loved you before your birth and has a plan for you despite your flaws. Another thing: I forgive you too. I release you from everything: ALL lies, careless words, hurtful words, evil thoughts, eye rolls, disrespect to family, alcohol and drug use, dependence on people, hesitancy to be bold, self-hate, poor body image, lust, sibling conflict, apathy to family, insecurity, impatience, selfishness, distractions from God, focus on career/success/money, anxiety, broken friendships, curses, short temper, adolescent rebellion, time away from God, apathy to the oppressed, allowing eyes and ears to be surrounded by evil, and everything that you have held on to in guilt. I release you. Your Heavenly Father forgives you and so do I.
