Hey Everyone! I wanted to give you all a snippet of my time in Africa. I was in Côte d’Ivoire for one month and Ghana for two months. As we changed teams this blog details one experience I had with my new team.

Allow me to introduce my new team.

This lovely group of ladies is known as ABBA’s Adventurous, Bold, Beautiful, Advocates, with some Sass.

During our second month in Ghana we entered into a season of ATL ( Ask The Lord).

It was during this time my team ended up at a witch camp. This is a place where people who have been accused of being a witch live.

If someone dies or something out of the ordinary happens in a village people get accused of practicing witchcraft. Once the person is accused they have a “choice”to go to a witch camp but if they decide to stay in their community they will most likely be killed by people in their village.

Once the witch or wizard gets to the camp they must go through a cleansing process.

It is believed that If they continue to practice witchcraft after being cleansed  they will be struck dead.

When we got to the camp it definitely wasn’t what I expected. They weren’t fenced in and there were men and children. Also the camp had close to 300+ people living there. According to the chief, about 30 people come to the camp every year.

Our time in the witch camp was very short, but we were very busy. The first evening we went around the village meeting men and women and talking to them about Jesus.

One man I had an opportunity to speak with had been there for over 30 years. He shared his story with us.  He was feuding with a distant relative over a plot of land. The relative he was feuding with passed away suddenly. As a result the family accused him of practicing witchcraft. He told us he would never forget how the people came looking for him. He had to flee in the middle of the night with only the clothes on his back. He travelled for 2 days before arriving at the witch camp.  Eventually he was able to send for his family.

Now 30+ years later He had come to the conclusion that he was forgotten and too old to receive God. He told me that it was enough that his children served God but,  as I further engaged him in conversation his perspective began to shift.  I shared with him the reason why we had come to the camp and how much God actually loves and cares for him. So much so in fact that the Bible says he knows the number of hairs on our head (Mat. 10:30).I reminded him that the world defines you one way but God

sees you differently. God loves you so much, and gives you value and identity. Before leaving his hut I got to pray with him and lead him into the arms of a good Father.

We serve such an incredible God. He sent my team to a witch camp in Ghana to let the forgotten feel His everlasting love.

You are not forgotten. You are not worthless. You are valued and you are loved by the creator of the world.
