Today's sermon at church was a perfect fit to what is going on with The World Race and in my life right now, as I prepare to leave in in January.
1 Peter 2:9
To summarize…we are one body and the called out ones. (This is my prayer for The World Race and my team..to exist to Glorify God as one body because we are called out and given these gifts …to serve others)
When I've tried to come to terms with me actually leaving and why I have been called to this.. I have been given these gifts to accomplish my one mission in life…which is to exalt God..praise God and honor God with all that I do.
Through me may God be glorified.
The more I have prepared for this trip, I have come across people that question me leaving all that I have behind and also leaving the country and the luxury of The American life… and my preacher today summed up an answer to that very very well.
Faith without works is dead… Morality without service can drive people away from God more than bring them to Him.
I 100% agree … you can be a Christian and be moral… but you can also be moral and not be a Christian. Christianity and showing Christ to others is about love.. and serving others in a way that does NOT benefit yourself in any manner.
Have you ever noticed that a lot of times…when a Christian provides a service..they first preach and say why they are doing what they are doing…or expect a donation towards their church or organization? A lot of times..no let me rephrase.. Majority of the time, people are taken back by people who bless them and give without expecting in return. People care less about how good you are but they do notice how much you care about them as a person, an individual, and a community. It is very sad but non-Christians expect us to be holy but not to care or show love to them first and foremost.
Jesus met physical needs first…and then proclaimed the Gospel. I also believe that many times..your faith through works can proclaim his name without even preaching a word. When people ask you why you sold everything to live out of a tent for a year… say..its because I love you and care about your heart and your soul and I am here to show you why I can be so filled love and joy.
As a Christian..don't focus on what you Can't do as a Christian… or what you shouldn't do.. but focus on what you CAN do and what you SHOULD do.
The mission statement of my church : I exist to glorify God as I strive to KNOW Christ personally, GROW in Christ to maturity, SHOW Christ by serving others and GO make Christ know.
Everyone have a great week!!
