My teammates and I decided that everyone should know what it feels like to live in the Dominican Republic, so here is the list that best sums up our experience thus far. Sorry I have not been able to upload photos.
3 AM Squatty potty runs
When every girl on your team has been proposed to more than once
Bucket showers in the out house
Banana trees outside the bedroom window
Large cockroaches in my bed
Miniature cups of cinnamon coffee (That I hand off to my other teammates)
Waking up to barking dogs, roosters, chickens, donkeys, people, motorcycles, children screaming at all hours
The squeakiest doors you can imagine
Sporadic electricity
One power outlet for 7 people
90 degree weather
Beautiful mountain scenery
Trips to the river on our day off
Stolen internet once a week
(VERY loud and slightly obnoxious) Spanish church services
Loud/off key worship songs with no accompanying music
Never washing your hands
Guandulés and rice
Hot chocolate with cloves and cinnamon
Clothes that don’t get fully clean
Lot's of time with God
10 people on the back of a pick-up truck PLUS our packs
Brushing our teeth with bottled water
People who yell at us in Spanish thinking we'll understand
4 new sets of grandparents
Exercising with an audience
Getting to know my team (maybe too well)
Free medical care
Everything running at least 30 minutes late
Being the only Caucasian people
Being blessed by the people we are serving
Thinking about all the little kids you want to take with you when you leave
Love
…….just a little taste of what we've been experiencing (and there's so much more).
