The fact that we as humans can have a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe tends to always blow my mind. Not only the fact that He wants a relationship, but the fact that we don’t annoy or bother Him. He wants us to talk to Him. Just think, someone that powerful and amazing calls us friends.
In order to have a healthy relationship with someone, you have to talk to them. I actually thinks it’s impossible to “be friends with someone”, but never speak to them. This is where prayer comes in for us Christians yayayayay!!! Praying, by definition, is to “address a solemn request or expression of thanks to a deity or other object of worship”. That’s the world’s definition of praying. I think we as Christians get this idea in our heads that our prayers have to be perfect. Everything has to be said correctly and we have to have our lives together or else God won’t take us seriously and then He won’t answer us. BUT that’s not what the definition says. Praying for Christians is defined as “interacting with God, most frequently through a spontaneous, individual, unorganized form of petitioning and/or thanking”. It says prayer is interacting with God. That includes the good, the bad, and the messy.
Since starting the race my prayer life has definitely changed. I used to have the same idea in my head. The idea that unless my prayers were perfect they most likely wouldn’t be answered. Now my prayers include: me thanking Him when I get the chance to have pizza, asking Him why I’m so clumsy all of a sudden and am falling all the time (especially off bunk beds), why I miss home so much sometimes. My prayers are not perfect because, wait for it, I AM NOT PERFECT. He knows that, I know that, so why would I expect my prayers to be perfect if I’m not????
Prayer is really just a chance for me to talk to my best friend. It shouldn’t just be spontaneous all the time or when we’re having a bad day, He’s done too much for us to only talk to Him when we “need” Him, it is bringing every moment before Him, which sometimes looks like us yelling and screaming out in frustration. It is also a chance for us to intercede for those around us and a chance to show the world God’s love.
So yeah… praying is so much more than just coming to God when we need something. He wants to be friends!!!! He wants us to laugh and cry with Him. John 15:15 says this: “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
Sooooooo take comfort in the fact that the king of the universe wants to get to know you and He already loves everything about you.
Peace out till next time!
