For the past couple of years my plans have always included graduating from high school and then attending college. This plan seemed safe and comfortable. A couple of months ago the Lord started to put some very different plans in my heart. As I began to pray about them, I felt He was calling me to something greater than the plans that I had always had in my head. After much prayer, I believe that the Lord is calling me to participate in the World Race Gap Year. This is a nine month long missions trip that includes visiting 4 different countries. I will serve as God’s hands and feet and will be a light to those in the darkness.

In church a couple of months ago, there was a pastor from Liberia that was a visiting speaker that Sunday. Throughout the entire sermon, my mind kept hearing the word “race”. I was confused as to what this meant, but after church, decided to Google the World Race because that was the first race that came to mind. My dream my entire life has been to travel and help change the world for the Lord. When I saw that there was a gap year being offered for 18-20 year-old college students I heard God saying “Yes, this is what I have called you to do.”

What I want to learn as I go on this journey is how to have an obedient heart in every and all situations. Even though this is not exactly what I had originally planned for my life, I am choosing to take the path that God has planned for me. This gap year is going to be so exciting and filled with so many unknowns, but I am beyond excited to see what God is going to reveal to me during this adventure.
