It’s rainy season. Just be prepared when it rains, it pours.
If you know me then you know that I do not like the rain and if you don’t know me, well I don’t like the rain… I do not like it here or there I do not like it anywhere. It was our first Monday night in Jaco, Costa Rica and I received a call from our contact telling us,“Oh by the way there is a Bible study tonight be ready to leave at 6:30 if you want to go.” Despite the fact that she called at 5 and we still hadn’t cooked dinner, taken showers, etc. it was also pouring rain. This rain is not the nice sit-on-your-back-porch-watch-and-drink-coffee kind of rain but a rain that floods, a rain that seems as though the heavens opened up and buckets of water are falling from the sky.
Knowing that our contact Sarah was coming to pick us up in about an hour I thought to myself “hmm well maybe it will stop raining and I will go.” Well, 6:30 rolls around and what do you know the rain STILL hasn’t let up. I tell you what, people are not lying when they say during rainy season when it rains it pours. Anyway, so Sarah shows up and despite the fact she is under and umbrella she is soaked. She looked around and said okay you guys ready to walk to Bible study? (Haha I’m sorry what? Walk to Bible study in this?) Really wanting to go, I put on my little yellow rain jacket ready to brace the horrid rain. As soon as I stepped out of shelter I was drenched. I really am not exaggerating, as soon as I stepped out I was soaking wet. There was no getting around it- I was going to be soaked. Cringing to myself a little, I put on my happy face. I walked through rivers of rushing water, walked quickly through rain that did not relent, and could do nothing but die laughing from the fact that I was walking in buckets of pouring water in Costa Rica on my way to a Bible study. As thoughts of turning around crossed my mind, I felt God telling me to keep going because it was going to be worth it.
As we turned the street I realized that we weren’t going to the church for a Bible study instead we were going to someone’s house. To my surprise, we were greeted at the door with a warm smile, a cozy beautiful home with a super comfy couch, tea on the table, and candles that filled the room with smells of gloriousness. Not only was the atmosphere beautifully gracious but, Daphene, the woman hosting Bible study, was beautiful and gracious. With 7 girls standing at her front door looking like soaking we dogs, she was there at the door with open arms and warm dry pants. As my pants were sopping wet…yes even down to the underwear, dry pants were like heaven to me. I’m sure I looked at her with puppy eyes of gratefulness. On top of it all, for Bible study that night Sarah gave her testimony. Let me tell you it is always amazing to hear people’s stories because God is just so glorified and it just always proves His goodness and love.
I’m thankful for wet pants because God’s love and beauty were revealed through stories and hospitality. If this is anything how this month will be I know it’s going to be a month of blessing, a month of growth, a month of love, and a month of God’s glory revealed…. even if my pants are wet.
Gotcha I didn’t really wet myself but it caught your attention didn’t it?
With all my love
Cam
