Hello all! My name is Callie Fike and I am 23 years-old. I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin – Stout. I am majoring in Human Development and Family Studies. I am a young lady who has a passion for God, helping people in need, learning different cultures, learning the Arabic language, and dancing Zumba!
First of all, thank you for checking out my World Race blog. God has a strong desire for me to go on the WORLD RACE. It sounds big and important, right? Well, it most definitely is! The World Race IS a journey to 11 countries in 11 months helping serve unprivileged women, men, and children. To be more specific, we will be working to encourage women and children who are victims of sex and slave trafficking, digging wells for clean drinking water and constructing new church and/or school buildings, comfort the abused and find safety for them as they move forward, teach children how to read because they cannot afford to stay enrolled in school, and we will join in their fight against HIV/AIDS. The countries I would be traveling to are:
Albania
Turkey
Bulgaria
Romania
South Africa
Swaziland
Botswana
India
Nepal
Mongolia
China
In order for me to go on the World Race, I must raise $15,500 before I leave July 2014. In almost a year, I have only raised a little over $2,000. God is teaching me patience and other life lessons! If you are wondering where the grand amount of money goes, the Worldrace.org/ states that the money I will raise for “The World Race will cover my costs for meals, lodging, air, land, and sea travel, administrative costs, set-up costs, coaching costs, debriefing costs, and training camp costs. Some of the things I will have to cover on my own include medical insurance, vaccinations, travel to training, travel to the start point (in the U.S.), and travel home from a major U.S. city at the end of the race.”
Now that you know what this amazing World Race journey is and how much it costs, I’m assuming you’re wondering, “What makes her really want to go on this difficult, yet rewarding journey?” This passion of desiring to help the less fortunate began to brew up in my soul a few years ago. After I had completed my first year of college majoring in art, I had an epiphany that I was setting myself up for living an unproductive and selfish life. This was the seed that planted my desire to help my suffering brothers and sisters in my country and in different countries. As a side note, at this point in my life I considered myself a Christian but I did not live by God’s words or have a personal relationship with him. Now continuing, I then began to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children. Each time I came back from volunteering there, I heard the thoughts in my mind say, “I want to be God’s hand and feet in a broken world.” In my fourth year of college, God gifted me with Christian friends who were great influences on me. They introduced me to Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU), which is a Christian organization. As I went to CRU’s sessions every Thursday night and experienced some Christian conferences, I freely and joyfully became a true follower of Jesus and for the first time in my life, I experienced my personal relationship with God. His marvelous love is so wide, so long, so high, and so deep! During this glorious transformation, I discovered the World Race from my Christian friend, Sarah. When she informed me about the World Race, I knew that this opportunity had been that itch I was searching for; it gave me an enormous love slap on my heart!
To get to the take-home points…(drum roll!)
- The first reason I want to go on the World Race: I want to show inauspicious children, women, and men my love, hope, my personal relationship with God and to show them that it is possible for them to have that too, how to be good role models, and to receive my encouragement. I need to help build God’s kingdom here.
- My second reason being: I want my brothers and sisters to know God and Jesus, and to be successful and happy in their lives.
- My third reason being: To help shed my sins and to grow more in God, to realize that some earthly things I think I need to be happy are not the correct source to be happy, and to find more gratitude in my life.
I am so grateful for this opportunity that God has given me, and have every confidence that He will provide for my needs (No matter how many times I have to switch routes because I have not met the deadlines to go)! Ultimately, my prayer is that God will do that through you. Would you consider partnering prayerfully and financially with me in my World Race ministry? Your financial support can be given as a one-time gift or as monthly donation, wherein you choose the amount and beginning and end date. If 35 people pledge $90 a month for 5 months, I would have 100 percent of the funds necessary for my trip. I will accept and be thrilled with small donations such as coins or small bills to larger donations! Every little bit gets me closer to obtain my calling of going on the World Race. You may donate on my Pure Charity account or my World Race blog at: calliefike.theworldrace.org (Please subscribe to my blog to know more and to receive important updates!)
I want to emphasize that your prayers and financial support for my World Race means the world to me! 😀
God bless you all!
Love, Callie
