Before leaving Rwanda we had the opportunity to put on a beauty for ashes event for the girls who are in the sewing program through Hope Ethiopia/Rwanda.

Beauty for ashes is based on Isaiah 61:1-3

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion- to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified .”

It is a time of coming together as women, sharing our stories, what God has and is doing, encouraging one another, while also simply laughing and having fun together!

We spent the day with the girls speaking unconditional love over them, worshipping, drinking coffee together while hearing bible stories, writing the things in our lives that we want to get rid of and those things we want to take up, writing down what we are thankful for, drawing our stories out, sharing those stories and words from the Lord with one another, and we ended the day playing games and painting nails!

My friend and talented videographer, Jen Olsen, Made the following video of the day! Please enjoy!

With Love,

Moment of honesty: Sadly I was sick the previous night and most of this day and missed part of the beauty for ashes event. Although I wasn’t there for most of it I still wanted to share what God was doing through my team in Rwanda!
