Surrender.  At launch in Georgia, everyone on the squad was given a key necklace with a word on it that is meant for you to pray and focus on. Once you feel you have an understanding of what that word means for God’s plan for you, you are to pray and give it to someone that God is showing you whom needs it.  My word is surrender.  If you google the christian meaning of surrender you will find: In Christianity, the first main principle of surrender is “Dying to Self”, or the “emptying of self” to allow Christ to live through the believer, illustrated in the following passages:

If any [man] come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

— Luke 14:26

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

— Phl 1:21

For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

— Colossians 3:3

The second issue of surrender in Christianity is allowing Christ to “take our place” through the believer, in other words, the emptying of self so that God may live through the believer as evidenced in Phl 1:21.

I truly thought I knew what surrender was and that I was pretty good about it.  People have warned me that I would come back in a deeper walk with God and see Him in a different perspective.  At least that is the goal.  All I can say is He is teaching me so much and has a great sense of humor.  If you know me, I do not like to be sick..really I don’t think anyone does.  I also do not get sick often, but when I do I am so stubborn about it and think I can still do whatever I want.  Getting sick is pretty much inevitable on the race, but also probably my biggest fear here.  I woke up this morning not feeling well at all but decided I could fight through it and would be fine going to school to do ministry this morning.  Yeah, I can think my flesh is stronger than it really is.  Once being there for all of 15 minutes, I knew it was a mistake but still did not want to leave.  However, our amazing squad leader Rachel convinced me that it would be a good idea to go home and rest so I could hopefully be better by tomorrow.  I will spare the details but all I can say is I am so glad that Rachel got me to come back.

I was planning on posting another blog, but it would not upload.  I was never planning to get sick, yet here I am laying in bed.  I know these are extremely simple examples of surrendering to the Lord, but I am already having to surrender myself to let Him be in control and lead the way to what is best.  As believers, we should be surrendering ourself to Him daily and making sure that we live out the life we say we believe in.

This week has been amazing, emotional, and tiring.  If you would like to read more about what our team has been up to you should read Rachel’s recent blog, the link is at the bottom.  Thank you for all the prayers and if you would still like to donate, there is still time!

God bless,

Caley
