Have you ever wondered if God really speaks? And if He does, how does he do it?
I used to all the time. To be quite honest, sometimes I still wonder if I’m even hearing Him correctly or at all. ~ In this blog I’ll share with you about how God has pieced together something He spoke to me in a dream over one year ago along with things He has been showing and speaking to me here in Nepal. I hope you all find this encouraging and that it builds your faith as it did mine.
This month is all squad month, which means we get to do ministry with all 47 members in our squad. So earlier this week we had our first day of ministry! We got to go on a “5 minute hike” up to a Hindu Temple here in Kathmandu. But before leaving, our entire squad spent an hour at our host/Pastors house in something they call “amad;” which is quiet time with the Lord. Our Pastor explained to us that this was a time to ask God for specific Words to declare/pray over Kathmandu.
During our hour long quiet time, I prayed and asked what God wanted me to speak over not only the city of Kathmandu but the country of Nepal. That’s when I found myself opening up to and reading Psalm 73. When reading through this psalm I wasn’t sure if this truly was what I heard from the Lord or not. I was struggling to tell if this was what God wanted me to speak over the city of Kathmandu. This turned out to be a continuous prayer of mine throughout the day.
After our quiet time we set off on our “5 minute hike.” The funny thing is that our Pastor did not mention that this hike was a Nepali version of a 5 minute hike; which actually meant we were going on a 1-2 hour long hike. 🙂 For those of you that know me well know that my heart was leaping for joy! Being in nature is by far my favorite place to be! And the views we ended up seeing were absolutely breathtaking!!
On our hike up the mountain we ended up stopping for a time of praise and worship and to take some time to make declarations and pray over the city of Kathmandu, all in the name of Jesus’. I was still asking God for a word to speak over the country (doubting that Psalm 73 was from Him) but nothing else was coming to my heart/mind. Then my squad leader Kaci stood up and walked to a place where she stood looking over the entire city of Kathmandu. And guess what verses she began speaking over the city/country? Verses from Psalm 73! Ok God, I see you! 🙂
Shortly after, we continued our hike to the top of the mountain where we arrived at the Hindu Temple. This is where God began putting the pieces together and revealing some big things to me. Immediately after we walked up the last set of stairs to get to the temple, I was reminded of a dream I had over a year ago. As I looked around the temple I was multiple things from that exact dream.
-Rewind to that dream- I won’t go into lots of detail but I will tell you, at first the dream scared the heck out of me. I never used to remember my dreams but this one was clear and when I woke up, it was stuck to my memory like glue. To sum it up, the dream left me confused. I ended up reaching out to a close friend of mine and she was quick to join me in prayer about it. She ended up telling me to leave it in God’s hands, not to focus on the parts of the dream that created fear in me, and that if there was any significance in the dream that God would bring it up at a later time. The dream had never come up again until this very day at the Hindu temple. The images from my dream were things that were scattered all around this temple.
Side note: The friend of mine who I reached out to for prayer was actually involved at the same ministry that I’m currently at, about 2 years ago. The same country, city, Pastor, ministry, everything. It is neat because we figured this out one week ago.
I continued to walk around the temple and observe the place where couples and families come to make animal sacrifices to there god in hopes of getting pregnant. I was also standing at a place where I could see the entire city of Kathmandu. It was at that moment that I knew I was supposed to keep speaking the verses from Psalm 73 over the temple and Nepal. As I walked around I felt like the Lord wanted me to keep saying ‘Jesus is King’ under my breathe. I know this probably sounds odd but bare with me. God puts all of the pieces together in a beautiful and profound way. As you can imagine, I did not understand what was going on but it was clear to me that God was doing something. After about thirty minutes of being there, our squad started walking back down the mountain. As I began my trek down, the Lord reminded me of a prophetic word a friends from church spoke over me before I left for this mission trip. They said that the Lord was going to lead me up to the top of a mountain where I’d claim victory in the name of Jesus’. In that same prophetic word they mentioned something about a flag. That is when it all started to make sense to me. Clearly the Most High, our Father in heaven, knew that I was going to be in Nepal at there very moment. He began preparing me for this moment over one year before I even got there. So my squad and I had the privilege of praying for the people of Nepal and that they would to come to know the One True God and His unconditional love for them.
Below are some photos of our hike up the mountain and the temple.
Thank you all for letting me be so honest in this blog. I appreciate all of you that take the time to read these posts. I’ll be honest, there is still a lot I do not understand. But I know God speaks to His children. And if we allow him to speak to us and through us, He will. I do not have all the answers and never will but if any of you would like to further talk about this with me, I’d love to connect with you when I get some free time.
Love you all,
Blessings!
