Whelp, here ya have it! ~ This is how I’ll forever remember my time in Peru.
Team El Shaddai, thanks for the sweet memories! Love ya’ll. π
#justPERUthings
- Desserts for daysssss. We probably put on 10+ pounds from all the dessert we baked this month. This is what happens when you have a full kitchen and recipe books for the first time in a long time!
- Monkey ball. A kid favorite!
- Bara, bara, bara…. Part of a song that was a favorite. Both mine and the kids.
- The Carnival that we put on for the children!!! (Pictures to come) We became carnival workers for the day.
- Pulling a muscle in my neck and having to swivel in my chair or move my entire body to look at people.
- Our sweet friend Blanca. Her powerful testimony and incredible children. Her heart to make an impact in the lives of the children in her neighborhood. Leading a Bible School every Sunday morning. Being able to bless her and her family at the end of the month.
- Futbol Camp which turned out to be my personal fav! We got to rent out the community soccer field three days in a row and play futbol (soccer) with the neighborhood kiddos. We also got to share why we were traveling the world and spending the month in their town. I also had to sit out day three because of my pulled muscle. For those of you that know me well know that this was not easy for me. But it turned out to be great! Cafe Sports (the only place with good WiFi in the whole town). When ministry for the month is in a desert town, it’s hard to find good WiFi.
- Collectivos = Taxis that pick up random people along the way. The more people, the less expensive the taxi ride.
- Cribz video with my teammates (video to come… be on the lookout because it’s REALLY funny) #HolySpiritComeToMe << Caitlin quote from video. #brokendownhouses<
- Robert and Joel pranks. Our ministry host and translator liked to play pranks on a team of pranksters!
- Dinner parties with local families!
- Window cleaning
- Sanding and plastering the walls in the upstairs bathroom.
- Plaza de Armus — A super nice grocery store that made us all a little homesick.
- Tambo de Mora. The sweet desert town we got to spend our month in.
- The Scavenger Hunt we put on for the the children. Running through the streets of Tambo de Mora looking for a list of different things. Asking a lady if we could take a picture with her and her cat. Getting either laughs or glares from the locals who watched us run by. Taking a picture in front of a blue house and the lady coming out with a questioning look. Passing out paper medals to this children afterwards. They were so HAPPY!! Looking everywhere for a bridge and settling for the bridge that was a part of the play set nearby.
- Movie nights! Which I felt asleep for each time. Hence why they call me, Grandma Caleigh.
- Spontaneous worship with CC! (One of my favorite memories on the Race thus far)!
- Doing listening prayer and then going on prayer walks. Here are some of the wonderful people we ended up meeting and spending time with.
- 9am morning meetings with our hosts every day.
- Getting electrocuted in the shower and by the sound system.
- Neighbors who like to blare their music until 4am, literally.
- Dogs. Barking. Constantly.
- Roosters crowing at random hours of the night. All of them trying to outdo one another around 4:30am.
- The gorgeous views of the sunrise over the mountains and sunset over the ocean.
- The surprise date night that we put on for our hosts Dan and Becky. ~ Frank Sinatra, 3 courses, and lots of room in-case they wanted to dance.
- Alex peeing her pants from laughing so hard. Our team has a lot of fun! π
- Putting chocolate on tooth to make it look like it’s missing. #farmgirl #Thailandthrowback
- Alex laying down while cleaning walls.
- “Giggle pants.” Everyone was laughing a lot during a thing we do called super-feedback. So I made the comment that every one had their giggle pants on…. it led to more laughter and CC feeling second hand embarrassment yet again. She loves me. π
- When I thought I cut an artichoke… #garlic *face palm*
- Cap cutting her finger with a knife and us having a hardly stocked first-aid kit. Future EMT self trying to find whatever would work to properly stop the bleeding and patch up her finger. Update: “It’s like 95% healed,” says Cap/Kalya.
- #somanybeans #nomas #leftoversuponleftovers #neveragain
- The fish plant blocks away from where we were staying and the lovely smell of fish that would fill the church daily. Sometimes it was so strong it would wake some of us up in the middle of the night… no joke.
- CC, Alex, and Carmen playing kitchen softball with a flyswater and paper. Very ammusing!
- Granita de Mustasa ~ One of the 4 Spanish songs we learned this month. Grow spanish vocabulary, grow!
- Learning the Spanish songs by watching videos that our hosts daughter put together.
- Tenting inside. #nobugbites
- Mosquito attack at the soccer field.
- When you buy a drink so you can use the Wifi and you find out it doesn’t work. #LaPrincessaWifi #NoBueno
- Alex doing her job interview on the sidewalk outside of Sports Cafe since it wasn’t open yet. P.S. She got the job! YAY!!
- My sweet buddy, Diego! ~ One day during story time when the kiddos were acting out the story, The Prodigal Son, Diego decided to hop in the story and take on the role as the uncle. For those of you that know this story, their is not an uncle. lol No problemo. He tried! (Diego is the one on the left)
- The dog with the crazy cataracts. He looked pretty scary but he was the sweetest thing!
- My last month with the AMAZING team, ‘El Shaddai.’ I’m going to miss these ladies SO MUCH!! The next two months on the World Race I’ll be with a new group of ladies. Please be praying for the transition.
Peru, you were pretty rad! π
