I had the fortune of being brought up in a Christian home being raised by God fearing and loving parents with lots of wisdom to offer. My parents have tried their hardest to instill in me a very firm foundation for my faith and have continued to push me towards a good relationship with the Lord and others around me. I’ve also been extremely blessed to have parents that are completely supportive of me in every way that they can. I am the second oldest of 4 children with a brother that’s currently a freshman in college, a brother in 8th grade and a sister in 2nd grade. I am extremely close with my siblings which has made it easier to always know that I have people who are there for me through everything.
Ever since I was young, my parents have pointed out to me that I have a servant’s heart, and I was what some may consider overly compassionate. Hearing that at a young age didn’t really mean anything to me, because I just let that get to my head, thinking I was better than others because I was just naturally nice. As I’ve gotten older, my parents and those around me have helped me realize that God gave me those talents for a reason. I need to learn those skills like the back of my hand and hone them to be able to actively use them for the glory of the Lord.
During my sophomore year of high school, I became deeply aware of my interest in music. I’ve always been a person with a song on my lips but it wasn’t until I picked up a guitar that I realized that I have a passion for worship. Since that time, I’ve been purposeful in using what the Lord has given me to serve him. Through the past few years I’ve organized and lead community-wide worship nights, benefit concerts, and serve in my church.
Now in my senior year, I have been blessed to have the opportunity to pursue a dream of mine to become a firefighter. I have been in a year-long, dual enrollment training program that has allowed me to become a firefighter with a hazmat certification. Through that I’ve also taken up volunteer firefighting to further my skill and have some time serving in the field as well. Being involved in the local fire department has given me a tangible example of what it means to serve others in their greatest time of need.
Through these experiences and others, I’ve begun to understand what it means to lead and serve others. I very much would like to continue to grow in this capacity and I firmly believe that the world race could help in that way.
