Christmas was difficult this year. It wasn’t anything like Christmas back home. We didn’t have any decorations or cookies or any snow. There weren’t any presents to give or presents to open. There was no Christmas caroling or white elephant gift exchanges. There wasn’t any family to celebrate with. And besides all that I was sick with malaria for Christmas. But I didn’t let anything stop me from celebrating Christmas. Because the reason why we celebrate Christmas is to celebrate and worship the birth of Savior, Jesus Christ.
Being away from the States for Christmas brought a whole new perspective to Christmas. There weren’t any distractions of Christmas presents to buy or decorations to hang or cookies to bake. I might not have celebrated Christmas with my family, but I celebrated with my Spiritual family. Christmas was and is simply about coming to adore the newborn king.
Between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day we had three Christmas services in 30 hrs at the same church. We had one Christmas Eve morning, one to bring in Christmas Day, and another Christmas Afternoon. Church wasn’t meeting because they had to but because they wanted to worship the birth of our Savior. They wanted to come adore the babe and so did I. All I wanted to do this Christmas was worship and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
