“Caleb…do you realize that some of these challenges we have to do are illegal?” says an innoceant but victory driven Anastasia.
I replied non-challantly, “I was wondering about that…well…Good luck. LET THE 2010 Kiev Photo Quest BEGIN!!!!”
And they were off.
About 45 students from all different Universities in Kiev, running around, taking ridiculous photos and laughing all the way.
It was a time of bonding, laughing, and most importantly, epic amounts of embarrassment in their own city.
There was leap frog.
And there was food. =)
While Emily and I tackled the hard task of judging all the teams and photos.
The Ukrainians taught some of us how to play “real” UNO.
They bring it to a “whole, nother, level.”
It was simply a time of great fun. The night ended with a challenge.
One of my new friends was nice enough to translate for me.
The challenge was on the Parable of the Hidden Treasure and how when we find something as good as Christ, we don’t just walk, we run. We get rid of everything else because we understand that all “sacrifices” or “costs’ mean nothing compared to the true treasure found in God.
It was a message that will always challenge me. I learned a lot. Hope the kids did too =)
The night in my opinion was a success. Not just because it ended in dancing. But it was one of the few times that we were able to corporately tell the students who we were, why we were, and how much God loved them more than we did. It was special.
Ohhh Ukraine, how you hold a dear spot in my heart.
And just like you showed us when we left, “we love you too”
