The day before I left for this sweet  adventure I call life/The World Race, I had a chance to talk to my  sister’s boyfriend Mike Sy. Naturally, I have to pretend to not like him because it is a brothers civic duty of protection to not like the boyfriends of their sisters. Dont tell Mike this, but I think he is a pretty cool person, and he gave me some great advice.   “This year is going to be a journey, you never know when people are going to need you, and so when you get the chance, make sure you rest.”

And so here I am, just one week into my journey, and I am resting. (and sometimes jumping)

This past Saturday, all 120 missionaries took off to their jobs except for 12 of us. We were told to wait 4 days at the training camp, help out anyway we could, and then leave Wednesday to work at a Youth Conference in Fielding (5 hours south of us). In the past four days we have helped with dishes, cleaned the camp, picked fruit, weeded gardens, and rested.
One of my favorite moments “resting” so far happened when we were picking plums at a farm. The owner drove us to hike out into the pasture and spend the afternoon enjoying the New Zealand landscape. We had 2 increadible hours of exploring, worship, and as I was about to give a challenge out of Colossians 3, all I could think about was Miley Cyrus.  “It’s not about how fast I get there, not about what’s waiting on the other side….it’s the climb.”

So weird huh? My sisters boyfriend Mike, teen sensation Miley Cyrus, and the writer of most of the New Testament all agree, life is about the process.  Enough of Miley, back to Paul.

In Colossians 3, the Apostle Paul talks about how important DAILY LIVING FOR CHRIST is as a christian. Colossians 3:1 we need to SEEK Christ. 3:2 We need to SET OUR MINDS on things above. 3:5-12 We need to PUT ON the things of God, and PUT OFF the things of this world. The words Paul chooses are present tense active verbs.  This means that DAILY LIFE  of a christian is quite an active one.  When we are preaching, serving, building, loving, rejoicing, or even resting, we need to be drawing to God, and learning what it means to be in obedience to Him, forsaking all for the sake of the Kingdom of God.

So here I am. My time for resting is over. No more waterfalls and rivers. No more pastures and peaceful NZ sunsets. I working in Fielding at Soul Survivor, a christian youth rally. I am camping with 250 kids. Playing games at midnight, and helping teach them about Jesus during the day.  I now know why God let us rest, because we are going to be exhausted by the end of these next two weeks! Late nights, early mornings and lots of high energy screaming teen activities… I am so in my element =)

So my friends, and family. Go boldly. In whatever you are do. Do it as if for the Lord, and remember that time is fleeting, the Lord will return at any moment, our days our numbered. It isn’t about  the destination, as much as it is about living in obedience to God every step of the way…its the climb =)
