I wrote this poem after reading the news. My heart is breaking over and over. It’s been breaking for a long time now. Deaths, refugees, lack of human connection. People living lives just going through the motions. People saying they believe in God yet living the same, stuck lives, like he actually has no power at all.
I am tired of my heart breaking over issues and not doing anything about it. Quite frankly, I haven’t known what to do about it and still do not know much beyond this step. So, I need your response to this.
Whoever you are – I want your response – you are a human, you have things (gifts, talents, ideas) to give away (that people need to hear):
I don’t want to be numb
“A six year-old shot and killed…”
Good God, not another one
Those killed and those killers are daughters and sons
Created with a purpose
This world needs their (and your) service
Worst part is
Most people never know it
People going through the motions of life
There’s so much more to it
Gilroy, El Paso, Dayton
Just to name this week’s locations
This isn’t shocking news
It’s become part of regular life
Could this be more than divided political sides?
(Yes)
Bodies piling up
These are lives, not numbers
It’s okay to LET YOUR HEART BREAK
Please, stop being numb to this ache
I really cannot overstate
This isn’t a political stance to take
People are looking for identity, connection
Go out there and get them.
You have a role to play
We all have good things to give away
We all have to start by letting people in.
Let me get right to the point.
This post isn’t something idle to discuss.
This isn’t a call for a select group of us.
There WILL be less hate
If we stop focusing on what separates
It’s easiest for you to read this
And ignore
Feel that spark of motivation
But not get up and out the door
I have the same reservation
But, this call is greater and grander than your and my hesitation
MY GENERATION IS CRYING OUT
MY GENERATION IS LIVING IN FEAR
This call is greater than our doubt
You can change lives today
Right now
Decide how
My friends!!!! We are not meant to live lives of isolation. Right now, you can bring someone in who needs a friend. You have that power. Right now, you can actually bring change. Wake up to what your passions are and act on them and give away the good things you have.
Really, right now. Answer this question: What do you want to do about what is breaking your heart?
If mass shootings, or the immigrant crisis, or spiritual deadness, or apathy, or pregnant teens, or homelessness makes your heart feel heavy, just to name a few, I want you to tell me about what you want to do about it.
NOT what you think is possible for you to do about it, but what you would actually love to do about it.
Let me be vulnerable and give you an example: The influx of migrants at the U.S. border breaks my heart. It’s under talked about. We could be doing more for the people who are currently countryless and homeless and scared. There’s a lot of really hard working people from all countries, from all political parties, doing their best. It’s a complex issue. We, as ordinary people, can do things about it. What I want to do, is to go to the border and talk to people and hear their stories. I want to pray with people and make people heard. I want to love people who aren’t feeling a lot of love right now.
Sharing this scares the crap out of me. Because the very human part of me doesn’t think that it is possible. I’ve thought of a lot of obstacles. I don’t have anyone to do this with. I have no plan. Still don’t. But I believe that God has put this on my heart for a reason. I believe He’ll do something with this passion of mine and that He’ll do something with me sharing that with you guys. I believe that politics can be put aside here, because God is not limited to political parties and what humans see as possible. He has much bigger perspective. He wants all people, every tribe, every nation, to know Him, and He is love, so we get to love too.
Back to you.
So right now, comment:
-
something that breaks your heart that you want to see change with
-
what makes you sad and what you want to do about it, even if you think it sounds like a far fetched dream
-
ideas of what we can do, as individuals, as humans, on a daily basis, about any of this
-
really any response to this
I want to hear. I want people (you) realizing their (your) capability for doing things.
You guys are amazing. I have learned so much from your comments and conversations with me. You have much to give away!!! Please don’t stop.
Let’s hear about it.
Cait
