January 30th, I stepped off the plane at LAX, breathed in the smoggy Los Angeles air and exhaled with a giant smile on my face. I was finally home. Then, reality sank in. I was reminded that I was home…for 11 hours. That at 11:30 pm that day, my flight to Asia would be leaving Los Angeles. I grabbed my bag from baggage claim and saw my family eagerly waiting for me. They hugged and kissed me, just as if Los Angeles was my final stop. But, like any bittersweet layover, I hugged and kissed them goodbye once more after a few stops at Target and Old Navy, of course. I boarded the plane again and thought to myself, 7 more months…dang. I don’t know if I was more anxious about having 7 more months, or more impressed that I had survived the last 4. My thoughts were then interrupted by all the Hello Kitty decorations on the flight, along with the flight attendant asking me to continuing walking to my seat. Asia. Holy Cow I am going to Asia. That’s what was on repeat in my head once I found my seat. Almost 50 hours later, our travel day was complete.
So here I am in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Day by day taking in all the culture, different religions, and foods of Asia. I didn’t expect to love Asia this much, that’s for sure! This month looks completely different than the previous four. For starters, I am on a new team! I am now living and serving with 6 incredible ladies, ( Jordie, Sarah W., Marisa, Gracie, Katie M., and Jenny). Check out their blogs and read about how you can be praying for them(: Along with a new team and new country, ministry looks different this month. We are living in a hostel in KL (Kuala Lumpur). Our hostel is above a club, so if you don’t fall into a deep sleep before 9 pm, you won’t be sleeping at all. Our ministry this month is what we call ATL on the race. It stands for Ask the Lord. Well, ask the Lord what? Ask the Lord everything. We miss so many opportunities to talk to people about Jesus because we aren’t asking the Lord for eyes to see the lost. This month is solely focused on asking the Lord where He wants us to go, and who he wants us to talk to. For me, this month it means visiting an older woman named Susan at a massage place. It might mean going to the same juice shop every other day to visit a younger guy named Anas and ask how his day was. It’s a lot about building relationships and seeking out those who usually aren’t sought out. ATL this month also might look like praying from 9pm-5am, because the street we live on is filled with woman who are prostitutes. Most of these women don’t do it by choice…they were forced there. I am looking forward to this month. I love structure and schedules, but I am excited to unplug from routine and see what can happen when I just trust and expect that God is going to do bigger things than I have planned for myself.
Please be in prayer and intercede with us. Pray that we might gain wisdom and discernment for who the Lord wants us to reach out to. We are excited to be used in big ways by Him!
During the layover, I got to see my sweet best friends Alexis and Alexa.
You know you have a keeper when your boyfriend takes the day off of work and surprises you with your favorite flowers <3
