Honduras, we meet again!

It has been a little over a year since the last time my feet have touched Honduran soil. This country was a major reason why I chose this specific route for the World Race. I am still blown away that we are almost half way through month three. Time really does fly by on the race!

This month my team is paired up with another team from our squad. There are 14 of us living in a house, pursuing community, and serving as the mobile church. We are serving in Valle De Angeles, a cute, artisan inspired town. Our ministry hosts are David and Scarlet who are the founders of Hope at Hands. Usually, their ministry is in the local schools with discipleship and a feeding program, but it is summer break here in Honduras so that means school is not in session.

So, what does ministry look like this month you might ask? Here in Valle de Angeles, there is a home for people with disabilities. I hesitate to call it an orphanage, but that is technically what it is. Most of the people that live at this home were abandoned, neglected, or rejected by their own family. Some have lived at this home since birth, others were found in abandoned homes or on the street, and some came when they were a child or a teenager. This place is home to over 77 people! To paint a visual picture, this gated compound has around 12 little homes that house 5 – 10 residents. On this compound there is a kitchen, basketball court, soccer field, garden, arts and craft room, and activities hall. It is a very nice facility and most of the residents talk about how much they love living there!

Our teams have been doing things such as gardening, cleaning, Christmas caroling and planning events for the residents. My favorite part of the day is from 9 am – 10 am. During this time, we gather all of our friends into the community hall to have a time of worship. Most days, that time of worship turns into dancing around the room, laughing, and the residents yelling, “OTRO” which means “another”. Serving along side these two teams has taught me a lot about joy, vulnerability, and love.

Our month is quickly wrapping up and we will shortly be on our way to Guatemala on the 28th! Below I have written some prayer requests. Please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you would like to send those prayers my way(:

– finish the month strong

– that Christmas will be a time of rejoicing despite homesickness

– fundraising for other teammates

– for the residents and our own hearts as this will be a challenging goodbye

– discernment, wisdom, and openness

More blogs are soon to come including some stories of these amazing friend I’ve made this month!

Thank you so much for the support, prayers, and love thus far. Each of you reading this blog has played an important role on this journey, and I am so grateful! My prayer is that you have a wonderful Christmas and are reminded of God’s love! Nothing you say or do earns his love, because he already gave the ultimate gift because you are worth it to Him!
