Being on a swing isn’t nearly as fun when you’re by yourself. It’s the working together and inviting someone to join you in the adventure that makes memories. And its an opportunity to push someone to become greater, to go higher. Two is always better than one…someone sang to me once. I mean, you can swing alone, it’s possible…but, really…don’t you end up just sitting stagnant?
Laugh and cry and jump and fly and experience life with people, seriously! Be pushed or start the pushing.
I remember in China writing a small thought about how I wanted to push a friend off a cliff. It sounds bad and I did think long and hard about how it was going to turn out, but it’s not how you may think. I explained how I wanted them pushed off a cliff, fall just long enough to recognize they didn’t have control then splash into a cold body of water. The depth of the icy water would help wake them up to all God had for them and then He’d pull them safely to shore. They would be physically exhausted but spiritually energized from their personal experience with Him. Forever changed.
Sometimes we need a push like that. More often we need the daily push of a friend to get us out of bed or to challenge us with something new. Always it’s nice just to have someone there just swinging by our side.
…unless you would rather keep sitting there by yourself…
