I thought awhile if I should share this. Do you believe in divine appointments? I do – it’s just that my eyes and heart aren’t always open to them throughout the day.

Sunday I took a drive to see some friends in Kalamazoo. That night before the service we planned to go to we ended up stopping at a restraunt in town for some food and music. Walking to the restraunt from our car our group was “interrupted” by and homeless man. He asked if we could spare anything for him and his girl for dinner since there was no room for them at the mission to stay. Awkward at first, some stood looking at the man, no cash to offer. My camp friend, Dan, offered a meal instead. Dan’s really non-chalant and humble, but, dude – I’ve heard that suggested made in sunday school before (meal vs. money) but never seen it done.

I decided to tag along with Dan and the couple as we made our way to McDonalds. Kurtis and Pam turned out to me more of a blessing to me than we were for them I think. We talked the whole hike to McD’s and while we were waiting for food. They’re just down on their luck now. But they wait each day and have hope for a better future. There’s sometimes room available at the local mission set up in the city but that night it was full – first come first serve. Talking with Pam – she’s a qualified individual. She was once a nurse for over 10 years, speaks three languages, yet is unable to find a job now. She and Kurtis have been together three years. They prayed for their meal in the name of Jesus Christ and asked us to pray for them at our service later that night. Dan covered the meal so all I could do was leave some cash for a taxi ride or something.

It was a great night in all but I loved getting to meet them. Kurtis tried to apologize for “interrupting” our night but I reminded him that that’s what God does and we just gotta follow. God’s love is starting to break through my sometimes hesitant heart. We were simply loving our neighbor. Plus their joy and gratefulness was so beautiful! They are my friends and family in Christ. I hope to see them again some day.

We didn’t get to mention them to others during the service Sunday night…so I was hoping you could help. Please pray for Kurtis and Pam – their situation, money, housing, and health; pray for Kalamazoo and the homeless, there were a dozen or so other homeless we passed by that night; pray that you can be moved and do something about it! Love your neighbor!
