Yes you could potentially come face to face with all of those things as you step out your back door into the Malaysian jungle. (Don’t worry Mom they have really good hospitals here) Malaysia is by far the most beautiful country I have seen. Green jungles stretch for miles and cover the mountains with waterfalls all the way up to the coastline lined with palms.
It is an exotic place that often makes me step back and say, “I can’t believe this is my life!”
The food is different but delicious. It is a mix of many cultures and meals are always an adventure. Every day I try a new fruit that I did not even know existed.
This month we are working with LOGO ministries. We teach English to Malay children, lead bible studies and work on fundraising projects. We will also have the opportunity to lead a church service for a Myanmar community that live and work in a stone quarry deep in the jungle, and will be going to another community for five days at the end of the month to serve with another pastor.
This month we are living with Pastor Thomas and his family and experiencing every day Malay life. Life is never dull with three children peeking their heads in our room and asking for “Aka” (Big sister) to come and play. We have quickly become a part of the family.
Perhaps the most difficult thing to adjust to this month has been living in a predominantly Muslim society. Most women wear head coverings and songs are blared over a loudspeaker five times a day signaling prayer times. Living in a society where you can be thrown in jail without trial for preaching about Jesus has really put religious freedom in perspective for me.
One thing that is constantly on my mind is my fundraising deadline. I must have $287 by July 1st…3 WEEKS…in order to continue on the race. Please pray for the finances to come in.
