The people we will have the most impact on are the ones closest to us. Not the homeless man we give a sandwich. Not the widow for whom we open the door. To the orphan we give a hug. The people we live with 24/7. The people we share beds and meals, and yes, bathrooms with. These are the people who will change our lives.
The thing is, we get to be in control of how much we let others impact our lives…and how much we impact theirs.
No relationship ever just happened. Like anything worthwhile, it takes time. Time is something you must give the other person, time taken away from what you would usually give yourself.
But time is the only thing that we don’t have enough of. That is why it is one of the most valuable things you can give someone.
We need each other. God made us that way and created the people around us to fulfill those needs.
On The World Race the greatest chance we are given to invest and change lives are in the lives of our own teammates and squadmates.
But the choice is ours. We will get out of our relationships what we put into them.
