Yesterday I took a much needed day to myself. After weeks of running around doing things to prepare for The World Race and saying goodbye to people I love I was just a little emotionally, physically, and spiritually exhausted. So I took a bit of a sabbath and it was so refreshing. God had a great idea with the whole resting on the 7th day thing!

God kept bringing the story of Gideon to my mind. So I read the story of Gideon( Judges 6- 8) and listened to a sermon that my church did on Gideon. Check it out if you haven’t read it. Through reading God’s word, listening to this sermon, and prayer. God kept bringing to mind the question: Who Am I?

No person can answer that question for you. Don’t get me wrong I believe God designed us for community. God uses people to speak truth in love, to encourages us, to remind us who we are. But ten kind words from a person do not mean nearly as much as one word from God.  Only God can answer the question for you. Luckily He does. Plenty of times. In Colossians 3:3 it says, “For you have died and you life is hidden with Christ in God”.   That means when God looks at you he sees Jesus and says, You are my beloved Son( or daughter); with you I am well pleased.( Mark 1:11).

This is good news, but many of us have so many lies in our head that we can’t hear this. We can’t hear from God or people because our minds are full of lies from the past. We have to allow God to break down the lies in order to hear the truth of who we are. In order to be people of purpose we desperately need to cancel lies with truth.

I know this is hard. Many of us have been deeply wounded , but no matter our wounds His were deeper. He died for us to know His love. My hope is through addressing some of the lies I have believed I will have a deeper understanding of who I am in Christ and what my mission in life is. But this is not just for me, my hope for all of you who read this as that you will join me in distmantling the lies.

The truth is no matter your past, no matter who hurt you, not matter how much you have hurt yourself you are a child of the most high king and He wants to use you wherever you are in your journey. In order to dismantle the lies we have to  constantly remind ourselves  of who we are. Henri Nouwen says it beautifully, “You are the heir to the Kingdom. Prosperity is your birth right and you hold the key to more abundance in every area of your life then you can possibly imagine.”
