In August, I am leaving to be a missionary through the World Race. My team and I will be travelling to 11 countries in 11 months to partner with local churches and organizations in doing work such as sharing the Gospel in remote villages, construction, ministering to sex trafficking victims and so much more. Tentatively, we will be going to Lesotho, Swaziland, South Africa, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. We will be living simply. Our only possessions contained in a backpack and many nights we will be sleeping in tents.
WHAT?
I know, I know. Many are probably asking things like where did this come from? Why would you quit such awesome and stable jobs? What about grad school and your career?
Believe me, I asked myself similar questions. But, there is an easy answer.
Jesus, ya’ll.
For the past 5 years, God has been lovingly drawing me closer to Him and teaching me what it means to be bold and say yes to what He has, even if it’s scary or unexpected or sounds completely insane or pushing me off the cliff of my comfort zone. When I felt a stirring 6 months ago that my time in Orange County was coming to an end after this school year, I looked into and applied to SO many places (ie grad school, non-profits, Christian camps etc). And it was crazy scary because I wasn’t really feeling led to a specific place or thing. I was having a hard time even identifying what the desires of my heart were. I found myself most days sitting on my bedroom floor with my hands and heart open saying,
“Jesus, I will do anything”.
In this time of uncertainty of my next step, The Lord reminded of the absolute truth I could hold onto. No matter where I go or what I do, my purpose is to love and serve people like He does and to go and make disciples. As I learned more and more about the World Race and as the need to make a decision came closer and closer, it was apparent that this is what God had for me.
So, I took a leap and said yes.
I have experienced tremendous love, scandalous grace, and miraculous freedom through Jesus Christ and I am overjoyed that I get to go share this with people all over the world.
