You are my shield

I’ve written that phrase multiple times, erased it, prayed about it, rewrote it, deleted the document, opened a new one and started over.

Again and again, God keeps telling me “I AM YOUR SHIELD; I WILL PROTECT YOU.”

And He means it.

With the new year, a new perspective is being created. A perspective that relies on the eyes of Jesus. Learning to see His works in every surrounding and hearing His words through every reading or conversation. As a part of this new perspective and understanding, I began reading the bible starting from the beginning.

So many times, I have fallen into the habit of just reading the Bible; especially the Old Testament. Breaking that habit and truly diving into His words and my oh my how rewarding it has been. We’ve all heard of Moses, the burning bush, and the parting of the Red Sea. This is such a powerful story.

Moses didn’t think he was enough. An angel spoke to him through the burning bush. God tells Moses that he is going to help the Israelites break free from the Egyptians. And HE DIDN’T THINK HE WAS ENOUGH.

How often do you turn down oppurtunities because you think you’re not good enough? How often do you stay in your comfort zone because you’re scared to break away from it? Gosh, we are qualified for so much more than we allow ourselves to believe. God has equipped us with so much potential, but it’s not until we believe it that we can use it. If Moses said no to God and allowed his fear take over, the Israelites would not have been saved from the Egyptians.

Don’t let fear stop you from achieving your full potential.

Moses TRUSTED God.

The Pharaoh not so much. Through Moses, God performs his first miracle in front of the Pharaoh, but hardens his heart and puts doubt in the Pharaoh’s mind by having his magicians also perform the same as Moses. He proceeded with 10 more plagues to the Egyptians. The Egyptians were hurt, starved, and killed, but the Pharaoh stood his ground and didn’t believe. It took TEN acts before the Pharaoh let the Israelites free from slavery.

How many times do you ignore the signs of God? God speaks to us through others, but sometimes we ignore it. We ignore His signs because they don’t align with our plan. WHY. So much can be achieved if we follow and listen to the signs.

TRUST GOD

God performed all ten plagues upon the Egyptians, but the Israelites remained unharmed if they did what God spoke to Moses.

Like what?! If you believe in God and trust Him, he will keep you safe. What a refreshing thought this is. He provides a shield for us always. Listen to His words and see His love; allow Him to work through you knowing that He will provide.

The Pharaoh finally lets the Israelites free. Moses leads the way to the Red Sea as they walk in triumph. God heard their cries and answered their prayers. The Pharaoh, however, doesn’t like his choice and sends an army after it. Frightened and afraid the Israelites approached the Red Sea with no way to cross and the army closing in. He parted the Red Sea! What a miracle that is. The land became dry and walls of waters formed. Allowing the Israelites to cross, but crashing upon the Egyptians.

This is such a good reminder that following God and being a Christian isn’t going to be all good news. They thought they were finally free, but the army approached. But you know what, God performed a miracle. God performs so many mini miracles in our lives, but do we recognize them? Continue to trust in Him. Even in times of triumph, we will hit hard times. But God doesn’t put something in front of us that He won’t get us through. How Amazing.

This journey is going to be nowhere near easy or all happiness. God puts trials in front of me, in front of us, to prepare us for something greater. But the more I trust Him, the more I receive through Him.
