Jealousy
Instantly you probably get a negative feeling. Which is normal, jealousy is often seen as something bad or seen as a feeling that needs to be shut down right when it starts.
But it’s a characteristic of God. Deuteronomy 4:24 “For the Lord your God, is a consuming fire, a jealous God.” Yes our God is patient, kind, forgiving, loving, and JEALOUS. It says our God is a jealous God. And each day we should be spending our time to make ourselves more like Jesus. So why are we shying away from this one?
This thought arose as I was walking on the treadmill. I’ve gained 10 lbs while on the World Race. This was a result of not working out but also not watching what I was eating and letting myself splurge more than usual on comfort foods. I watched as other squad mates were losing weight and felt incredible. I was walking in a body that resulted from lack of disciple and obedience. I fell into this rut of, I want to be them. I got jealous.
But instead of turning this into a self-pity party and allowing myself to be overcome by thoughts of low self-worth, I used it to empower and encourage myself.
Because that’s what jealousy should be used for. A way of seeing what can be. I see my friends with great futures ahead of them, it’s easy to wish I was in their place. But they got there as a result of patience and obedience with Our Father.
The idea of disciple goes beyond exercise and healthy eating. It affects our spiritual and mental health as well. When we stay true to ourselves and listen to what our body or our spirit tells us, things fall into place.
When you get jealous of someone or something, why do we instantly put up walls? Why isn’t the question, how do I get to where they are?
Stop and ask yourself what are the reasons behind jealousy? Is it because you could actually be in their place or because it simply looks nice.
When we’re obedient with the Lord and discipline ourselves to what He’s asking for us, He will do great things. Most of the time, you’re the one stopping you from getting there. Start using jealousy as a way to empower yourself. Take risks and do things you’ve always wanted to do. Because we’re not going to get to where we want to be without making the first step.
We all get jealous, what are you going to do about it?
I am still fundraising for my flight home and end of the raise funds. I need to fundraise $100 more to finish covering my plane ticket and another $50 that will go towards laundry and health products for the next 3 months.
