These last few months of interviews, applications and conversations have been no coincidence. These last few years of prayer, commitment and faith have been no accident. Both of us have felt the calling to go on the World Race for quite awhile and certainly haven’t been so secret about it either.
It all started when Kimmy’s sister went on a Passport Immersion trip with AIM (now called Gap Year), when both of us had heard about these “racers” she had met while on the field. We heard about these men and women who gave up their entire year to be the hands and feet of Jesus. We were so impressed, yet also so not committed to being one of them, we just liked the idea… and that is how God works, isn’t it?! That was 2012.
Since then both of us knew that we felt this gaping desire, yet heavy weight of going. It really took many sit down talks of us saying, “Wait, you really want to do that too?” Once we both realized that it could be a serious consideration, we went straight to their website, and we were saddened by their statement of no dating, or you must be married for at least two years. We just sat there saying, “Well, dang, God. We kind of thought you were calling us to something.”
But that’s the thing. He was, and He always had been, and He would continue to lay the path out for us that way.
We eventually got married in 2014 and when it came time for our college graduation we admittedly told people that our plan was to move home to spend time with family for a year and then to head out on the World Race. Oh man, the responses we got were laughable, people couldn’t understand our wobbly plans, and after awhile we started believing them. We started thinking that maybe the idea was far-fetched after all.
Then came 2015. It was a hard year where we both had to really sit back and trust God to follow through with His calling and for us not to lose the faith. We bounced job to job and wondered if we made the right decision. But in the midst of doubt, the World Race application opened early and we got the opportunity to apply. WOW! the immeasurable and promised joy we had was SO rich!
Long story short. We are going on the World Race!
The World Race is a mission trip to 11 countries in 11 months. We get the opportunity to experience first hand what it means to feed those who are hungry, heal those who are hurting and love those who are empty.
We are going to:
India, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Greece, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Botswana, Swaziland and South Africa.
One of the hardest parts of this trip is our funding. We both have a heart that is so willing and excited about getting out there, but financially we are leaning on God to give us the faith to believe it is possible. Our goal is $34,000, and that is not easy money. However, we believe that our God loves to prove the impossible, He loves to move mountains, He loves to give us immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine. We are hoping that if you feel called to support us in going on the World Race, that you would consider clicking the “Support Us” tab on our page. It can be set up by one time donations or by monthly donations. It is tax deductible, and going through this website allows you to not have any fees tacked on that would detract from your giving. We can’t tell you how much we would appreciate your support and to know that we are in this together. 🙂
