My team has been in Bolivia for a few days. By Tuesday morning, we will have spent over 50 hours in a bus in less than a week. With plans working out perfectly, we were able to spend our first day here in the Bolivian Salt Flats- such a cool experience. I’ve called way too many llamas “Tina” and have searched high and low for a coca cola light with no success.

We are in La Paz- the “highest administrative capital in the world” at 11,932 feet. Our host lives here, and we are spending a couple days with him preparing for the month ahead. Last night over a lovely meal of grilled cheese and hot chocolate, I asked what to expect this month. The answer I got, was not what I was expecting.

We will have a base in Apollo, Bolivia. From there we will be trekking to three different villages in the Amazon Rainforest. Our biggest trek being to the Mojos- a very desolate village 32 miles into the Amazon. With very little outsider interaction, they anticipate our arrival. As do we. He talked about snakes, landslides, monkeys, river creatures, leafcutter ants and the list continues on. Literally so many threats.

I saw a few of my team members starting to get uncomfortable with his answer, so in an attempt to calm nerves I asked, “well, what should we be looking forward to?” His answer threw us all for a loop. “Heaven”. I actually laughed a little but he wasn’t kidding. That wasn’t exactly the answer I was looking for but he left it at that. I was asking about the trek, the trip and the experience. I did give some thought to his answer. My conclusion was this: Heaven should be exactly what I’m looking forward to. The things of this world will often disappoint. I want a faith so radical that the Lord’s plans are so good and for me that I’m willing to sacrifice all.

With that being said, catch you on the flip side friends!
