Ever since I first heard about the Parent Vision Trip (PVT), my mind was made up to go. I have a tendency to be a more fearful person in life. I could also be described as cautious, practical, and even skeptical. I don’t like taking risks and I’m certainly not a thrill seeker. With this being said, I have no fears, doubts, or apprehension about traveling out of the country to serve along side my husband and daughter for a week in Romania.
One of my favorite quotes is, “God will not call you where He’s not already going”. (Focus on the Family) I didn’t always feel this way; in fact, I never had much interest in Missions work, especially serving out of the country. I like being comfortable. I like safety and security, where I know the US dollar, and where the majority of people speak the same language as I do.
But, back in 2007 God decided it was time to stretch me and allow my faith to be tested and strengthened. He called my husband Dave, myself, and our two children (ages 7 and 9 at the time), to be part of a Discipleship Training Program (DTS) through YWAM (Youth with a Mission). Sight unseen, we sold our house in the suburbs and moved to Meeteetse Wyoming where we would live in a 1-room bunkhouse together for the next 3 months. And if this weren’t enough of a change for my homebody self, we were told we would be headed to Northern Pakistan to live, work, and serve for another 2 months. I had never been asked to do such a crazy, stretching, far-fetched thing in my life, and yet God gave me His peace to go through with it.
“If God calls you to it, He will bring you through it”. You may have heard of this saying a time or two before. Sometimes we are quick to toss out little catch phrases like this to give someone courage and a little hope. But after seeing God work in my and my families life in Pakistan, watching Him Bless our Daughter with every penny she needed (and then some) for her World Race trip, and seeing Him answer prayer after prayer in my life, I am compelled to trust Him more and more. I fully believe that little catch phrase to be true.
I don’t have assurance that we will be safe in Romania. I may have to physically work hard, sweat, or be pushed out of my comfort zone again. I may have to eat weird foods, endure heat, bugs, or challenging people, but I’m ready to face whatever God sets before me. He has shown me that He is faithful, and worthy to be trusted.
May God get all the Glory!
