Never in my life have I ever been called to centural America. Yet, now that I am here, I never want to leave. This month has been incredible. We have made so many new friendships and have become part of a community. El Salvador has taken a major hold on my heart and I hope to one day come back to this beautiful country.
(P.S. I am writing this blog on my phone, I apologize for any misspellings or awkward sound phrases)
Smell:
Santa Ana smells just like any other big city, except with firework smoke and mini fires that are randomly lit in the middle of the street. Sometimes, you can get a whiff of chicken or paupusa from a nearby restaurant.
Sight:
Honestly this country reminds me of California. With mountains in the distance of the major cities that take up most of the country. Motorcycles are one of the main forms of transportation here and the pastor we are staying with even let me take his for a short spin (shhhh). The houses here are much smaller than the ones in Honduras but they are very homey. We have had the privilege of staying at a church which has a nice big courtyard for people to converse in. They have a big sanctuary where the service takes place, along with dodgeball games, and dance practice. Our room is small but cozy. There are three sets of bunkbeds that we have loved having! Everything here is perfect.
Sound:
At night we like to play a little game called gunshot or firework. This country LOVES their fireworks and it becomes apparent around 10:00 – 11:00p.m. The gangs around the neighborhood think it is fun to add a few shots into the air, just to keep us on our toes. Cosita, the church dog, makes sure she barks at every living thing that approaches the gate or comes into her territory. Whether it be a grasshopper, pigeon, or rat, she will gladly take care of removing it from the premise.
Taste:
Okay so I said Belize had amazing paupusas but they have nothing on the country in which they originated. We went to this amazing little Paupusaria where we got pork and cheese paupusas that were to die for. Dina, our El Salvadorian mom has cooked some of the most amazing meals ever and treats us very well. Tortillas, Chicken, and French Fries are her specialties.
Touch:
These people are the kindest people I have ever met. They did everything in their power to make sure we felt safe and relaxed while being here. Their willingness to serve and care for us rejuvenated my spirit. I have never met people more dedicated to a church or one another. They are always working to build one another up and to make their church a better place. Because of them, I am ready to take on the next 8 months head on.
With that being said, I am getting ready to go into Vietnam. Sharing your faith is illegal in this country wich means I am in great need of your prayers. I also must make my blog private which means only my subscribers can read them if you use a password. I hope you will continue to follow me on this journey!
