The Lord has been putting on my heart to share a story I had written while I was in Haiti. He told me, why do I give you these opportunities if you’re not going to share them. Me- God these are my personal thoughts and I want them to stay between you and me. God- I created this story for you to share. So, here it goes!!

———

I see a white dove soaring through the air upon the green mountains and a pile of trash. It flys so high it can’t see the devastation but lands on the beautiful palm trees. Quickly it flys away from hearing the beeps along the street where there are calming waters running down the gutters as it takes a drink. The children see the dove and chase it but it gets away. They have dirty clothes on but still, wear a smile as big as their next meal.

It flys away from the mess but brings joy to the people who see it.

Out of danger, it goes to find its mate to feed the babies. They have not had a meal in 2 days. The father has gone off looking for food in the dumps. It spots a worm but another dove steals it before he gets the chance. He flys off near the ocean feeling the misty wind. It lands under a tarp with sticks attached to it as it rains. The people under the tarp feed it rice. He puts the rice in his beak and flys off into the sunset to get back to his family. Along the way, the dove passes all colored houses stacked on top of each other, landing on the blue house. At the crack of dawn on the roof of the blue house, it sees a Haitian looking at the sunrise, walking back and forth letting the sun absorb his thoughts.

The man sees the Dove and has hope for his future.

The dove flys off the roof and continues his journey to give his family food and a future. He passes the trucks full of people, that bring them to work. At night he sees people walking miles to do the same thing he is doing, to feed and give a future. He flys day and night to deliver his rice to his children and mate. He flies through the blistering heat and drenched from rain to deliver. Exhaustion sets in and he is 20 minutes from the nest. He stops at a misty waterfall. He sees people bathing and cleaning clothes, kids with jugs filling their tummies after a 10-mile walk.

The Dove soaks his dirty wings into the fresh water. Then he is off, on a mission to see his family. He finally reaches his home and 1 of his kids have already passed away 2 days ago. The mother dove buried it because she didn’t think he would be back. But he did come home. He fed his kids and mate and was sad about losing a child. Despite his sorrow, he was glad to bring his other kids food. While he was gone, the mother taught the birds to fly, gather bits of scraps, and to live. They had great times as a family even through the hard times.

The father dove sacrificed and had a journey not just a destination.

He saw and experienced something that changed him.

He lived not just survived.

That is the story God gave me while I was in Haiti. I can’t wait to experience different cultures and see what God has for me to write. Some of the things God taught me in Haiti are what made me want to do more ministry!!
