Hello friends!! It’s been awhile since I wrote and put my thoughts down on this blog. Luckily, this is about to become a daily basis and will be so fun to bring you all along with me in this new season of life I’m entering. I have so much to tell you already. It’s been nothing short of pure joy and peace here in Costa Rica. So, let’s go!!
My squad and I left for the Atlanta airport around 2:45 am on Monday morning to catch our first flight to Fort Lauderdale. We all had everything we packed up for 9 months on our backs and were so ready to go. We got into the ATL airport, went through TSA smoothly, and waited to board our first flight. It still didn’t hit me that I actually just said “bye” to my hometown for 9 months. That I actually said “bye” to comfort. That I actually said “bye” to some incredible people in my life who have walked with me through some incredibly tough seasons. We eventually boarded our first flight around 6:50 am and headed to Fort Lauderdale. It’s really fun riding a plane with your friends. In this case, I was riding a plane with a group of 30 ish friends!!. That’s fun. Real fun. Eventually we get to the Fort Lauderdale airport and have about a four hour layover. Some girls on the squad and I decided to get some breakfast before we had to board our next flight. We found a Chili’s and decided to get some breakfast there (yes, they serve breakfast….I never knew it either). It was exactly what I needed as a last meal in the States…..it was good for my soul. After breakfast, my squad and I boarded our last flight, said an official “bye” to the USA, and headed to Costa Rica. It was about a 3 hour plane ride and was full of us sleepy heads just ready to be there. Then, we landed into Costa Rica.
Wow. It still feels surreal. We are about a full week into our time here and I am falling in love. This country is simply beautiful in every way. There is so much life here and so much green around. The air is cool and the mornings are sweet. The birds are singing all of the time and the mountains are vast. The people here are so kind and full of smiles. The culture here is based all around coffee (!!) and relationships. It’s a way of life here. It’s a way of connecting here. This country is FULL of coffee. So yes, a happy place for sure 🙂
I’m learning new things everyday I wake up and am grateful that I get to learn more. I am grateful that The Lord brought me here and where He has brought me from. A year ago today, I would’ve never imagined I would be sitting here in Costa Rica doing Kingdom work. I really wanted to be at Anderson University for communications where it seemed comfortable and easy. It blows my mind how faithful and kind The Lord is to us. Even when we don’t know where we are supposed to be, He will guide us and lead us to where He wants us. This is so not what I had in mind this time last year. Praise The Lord for His timing, direction, and knowing of who He created us to be and what we were made to do.
My squad and I will start ministry this coming week and will be able to get a feel of what it will be like. Please pray for us!! Pray for strength, courage, rest, and radical faith. I am thankful that The Lord created brothers and sisters in His Kingdom. That The Lord created community so I wouldn’t have to do this alone. We are learning and all going through this together. Your prayers are so appreciated in every way.
I can’t wait to see what these three months here hold in beautiful Costa Rica!!
