The Future. The Unknown.
When asked the question, if you could have any superpower what would it be? A lot of people answer to see the future or to control the future. That’s just it, something we cannot see or control, scares us. So, we fixate on that thing that concerns us most. We mull it over day and night and ultimately use way too much brain energy on it.
We had a day long prayer session a couple of days ago where we all took an hour to pray over each other’s prayer requests. It was a day of uninterrupted prayer. When my hour came, I read through the prayer requests, and I was astonished at the similarity running through all of them. Everyone wanted insight on what their future held. As I began to pray for this prayer request that overwhelmingly took control of the paper, the Lord spoke. He told me that “I want you guys to give your worry to me. I want you to trust me that I have your futures in the palm of my hand. I want you to enjoy the present that I am blessing you with now.” Shoot, that hit me hard. All of our concerns over our future endeavors after the race had taken over our minds and thoughts.
Not getting your expectations met is also a big distraction. It is the same thing though. We plan and plan and then when those plans get messed up, I, at least, freak out. Where is the trust in that situation? Why can I not trust that God has my best interest in mind for that day? He actually probably has the better plan in mind. Again, it is all about control over a situation.
We want to know what is going to happen in our futures. Then, we can feel like we have a sense of control, a sense of having our lives together. But, I believe that the Lord, protects us from knowing what is going to happen next. It is like when the team lead conceals information about the next ministry. The Lord conceals the future to protect the hearts of His children. And all He asks is that we trust Him with it, that we trust that He has a best result in mind.
So, I, my team, and this family are now trying to press into trusting the Lord with our futures. It is not easy. I am trying to find the balance between trust and taking physical steps forward. I just cannot get lost in my striving to plan and succeed in the future.
Now, you might be sitting here like freak I am still worrying what is going to happen in the future. Well, I have some good news for you.
38 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or demons, neither the present or the future, nor any power, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39
Nothing that will ever happen in the future will separate us from the love of our Father. How good is that promise?
The future awaits us all. We can either worry our way into it or relax in full confidence that God has got us.
