I’ve recently been reminded of the importance of listening to God. In our prayer lives I think this is often something forgotten. We get so busy talking to God, asking things of Him, and pleading for answers. If we could take some time to sit in His presence and listen to what He has for us, a much greater understanding and relationship would come into fruition. God wants to talk to us. We just have to be willing to be obedient, patient, and have faith while we wait for him to speak.

In Nepal this past July my team and I were gathered in our fellowship room for a night of worship. I remember feeling down that evening. I felt shut off from God because I wanted so badly for Him to talk to me but I wasn’t receiving any kind of response from Him. I recalled something my sister Jen had mentioned about actively listening to Him. She said, “envision yourself sitting in a white room”. By doing this, it closed off distraction and allowed me to just be before Him. I did not fill the void space with my own words as I had always done previously. In that quiet moment sitting vulnerable and open before the Lord, He spoke.

I share this story because it has been such an important reminder for me throughout this season of fundraising and preparing for the race, alongside all other areas of my life. Taking time to just be present before Him and ready to receive is crucial in our walk as believers. Let us not sit idle in our prayer lives but be active with seeking and listening to the Lord.

“Then there came a voice from above the vault over their heads as they stood with lowered wings.”
